The Store Team Member role at the Columbia, SC location plays a critical part in delivering excellent customer service while ensuring the smooth operation of the store. This role involves assisting customers in locating products and providing solutions to meet their creative needs, as well as maintaining store standards that reflect the Michaels brand. The team member is responsible for completing various duties such as fast and friendly checkout service, cash handling, and participating in inventory management including truck unloads, stocking, and merchandising. The position requires engagement with customers regarding the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, as well as facilitating the Voice of Customer survey to gain valuable feedback for store enhancements. The role also supports omnichannel processes, including Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), ensuring a seamless shopping experience across multiple platforms.
Team members contribute to the overall shopping environment by maintaining store recovery standards, managing merchandise returns, and adhering to safety and shrink prevention programs. The position demands physical stamina due to standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and reaching shelves, sometimes requiring the use of ladders or other equipment. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years or older
- ability to remain standing for long periods
- ability to move throughout the store
- capable of regular bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and stretching
- ability to lift heavy boxes and access high shelves by ladder or similar equipment
- able to work nights, weekends, and early mornings
- compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements for employment
Job Qualifications
- Retail and/or customer service experience preferred
- ability to interact with customers and team members in a positive manner
- basic cash handling skills
- knowledge of store operations and merchandising standards preferred
Job Duties
- Help customers shop, locate products, and provide them with solutions
- provide a fast and friendly checkout experience
- execute cash handling to standards
- engage customers on the benefits of the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards and complete enrollments
- educate customers on the Voice of Customer (VOC) survey
- assist with Omni channel processes, including Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS)
- participate in the truck unload, stocking, and planogram (POGs) processes
- complete merchandise recovery and maintenance including merchandise return/go back process and general store recovery
- perform Store In Stock Optimization (SISO) and AD set duties as assigned
- support shrink and safety programs
- adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company programs
- interact with others respectfully and positively
- cross trained in Custom Framing selling and production
- perform other duties as assigned
