Job Description
The Night Auditor position offers an essential overnight role within the hospitality industry, specifically within a hotel setting. This role is fundamental to maintaining the smooth operation of the hotel during overnight hours by combining guest services with financial record-keeping duties. Typically, Night Auditors work during the late evening through the early morning hours, a period when guest interactions still require attention, and the hotel needs meticulous financial reconciliation to balance daily operations. The company hiring for this position is a hotel known for its commitment to guest satisfaction and operational excellence. The hotel prides itself on maintaining a welcoming, clean, and secure environment for its guests at all times. Employees at this hotel are trained rigorously not only to meet, but to exceed guest expectations while ensuring the precise handling of all property related procedures and safety protocols.
The role of Night Auditor encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities that ensure both guest services and hotel accounting records are handled accurately and efficiently. Prior to the start of their shift, Night Auditors are required to report ten minutes early to allow for a smooth transition and proper briefing with the outgoing guest service agent. One of the initial duties is the counting and verification of the cash drop from the previous clerk, which includes witnessing the secured locking of the drop box and signing off on verification forms. Throughout the shift, the Night Auditor carefully monitors and audits the day’s work to identify and correct any discrepancies or errors in the financial records. This includes utilizing check systems and performing thorough audits according to set guidelines. In addition to financial duties, the Night Auditor is responsible for maintaining the hotel lobby’s cleanliness, setting up the continental breakfast area, and managing incoming reservations by entering them accurately into the computer system.
Moreover, the Night Auditor plays a critical role in ensuring the hotel’s safety protocols are adhered to. This includes knowledge of the hotel’s infrastructure such as the location of main gas cut off valves, water, electrical systems, and breaker panels, which is vital in emergencies. The Night Auditor also needs to be familiar with the location of master keys, override keys, and access to laundry areas to provide swift responses to guest needs or issues. Emergency preparedness is emphasized strongly, with the Night Auditor maintaining an emergency kit equipped with a flashlight and knowing where first aid supplies are stored. Communication protocols are key, including knowing the manager’s contact number and the ability to shut down computer systems if required for safety reasons.
The role requires not only technical proficiency and attention to detail but also a customer-service oriented approach as Night Auditors assist guests with their inquiries and provide referrals to other properties when fully booked. Training is structured with a two-week initial period during which new hires work alongside more experienced staff before operating independently. During a probationary period, ongoing support and coaching ensure that new Night Auditors gain confidence and competence in their role.
This Night Auditor position is ideal for individuals seeking an overnight role in a stable hospitality environment where accuracy, reliability, and guest service excellence are highly valued. It offers the opportunity to develop both financial auditing and customer service skills in a dynamic hotel setting, with prospects for growth within the hotel group.
