Job Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Standing or walking for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday
  • Hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat, and reach
  • Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment such as knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • May require use of ladders

Job Qualifications

  • One or more years of buying and merchandising experience
  • Extensive product knowledge including production, distribution, and seasonal availability
  • Ability to create and negotiate price bids
  • Working knowledge of prepared foods merchandising expectations
  • Understanding of Whole Foods Market margin program and profitability
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems
  • Strong communication skills and team player attitude
  • Ability to educate team on product knowledge
  • Ability to meet customer service standards

Job Duties

  • Purchases and replenishes food for preparation through proper buying procedures
  • Monitors and acts upon open purchase order reports accurately and timely
  • Controls spoilage and shrink and achieves turn goals
  • Completes spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets
  • Assists with counter service and cooks as scheduled or necessary
  • Communicates with kitchen manager, chef, and team leader on ordering needs
  • Maintains positive working relationships with vendors
  • Works with team leader to cost recipes
  • Oversees customer special order procedures
  • Supports leadership in conducting inventories
  • Maintains financial profitability by meeting purchasing and sales targets
  • Provides excellent customer service and models suggestive selling techniques
  • Maximizes sales potential through prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products
  • Complies with established procedures including health and sanitation
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary working environment
  • Performs opening, mid, and closing duties
  • Reports safety hazards and violations immediately
