The role of a Prepared Foods Team Leader at Whole Foods Market involves assisting with the scheduling and supervision of Team Members and ensuring the smooth daily operation of the Prepared Foods department. This position plays a critical part in maintaining compelling prepared food, coffee, and juice displays while supporting both the Prepared Foods Team Leader and Associate Team Leaders to foster a collaborative and efficient team environment. Beyond managing inventory and cleanliness, the Team Leader is responsible for training new Team Members, overseeing department opening and closing procedures, ensuring adherence to food safety regulations, and promoting the company’s core values and goals. Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- able to stand or walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
- hand use that includes single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- capable of bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
- exposed to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- able to work in temperatures less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), and greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- able to work in wet and dry conditions
- flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- able to use tools and equipment including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- may require use of ladders

- Extensive knowledge of Prepared Foods team procedures and policies
- strong organizational and time management skills
- excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills
- capable of teaching others in a positive and constructive manner
- product knowledge
- advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures
- proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory
- demonstrated decision-making ability and leadership skills
- proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications
- retail experience of 12 or more months
Job Duties
- Supervises and delegates tasks to Prepared Foods Team Members
- works with Prepared Foods Trainer to train Team Members to build and sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover
- assists in training new Team Members using learning checklists and training materials
- keeps cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated
- opens and closes department according to established procedures
- ensures all necessary breaks are given
- communicates team concerns to the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader
- sets and achieves the highest standards of retail execution
- fosters and encourages a positive environment of teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
- maintains awareness of customer flows and needs and directs Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers
- selects, trains, develops, mentors, motivates, and counsels Team Members
- provides timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations
