The role of the National Safety Manager at Greyhound is a vital leadership position responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive safety strategy that spans the company’s nationwide operations. This role collaborates closely with operations and executive leadership to design, implement, and oversee safety policies, programs, and compliance initiatives. The National Safety Manager ensures that all safety objectives are achieved while enhancing overall operational performance. Key responsibilities include conducting rigorous safety reviews, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks. The incumbent is tasked with initiating in-depth investigations into incidents, performing root cause analyses, and formulating corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.

This position requires a proactive approach to safety culture, fostering engagement at all organizational levels to drive continuous improvement and compliance with federal and state regulations such as those set forth by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and California Air Resources Board (CARB). The National Safety Manager also serves as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, represents the company in legal proceedings when necessary, and leads a team of safety professionals. The role includes an element of travel, approximately 50%, to various operational sites to deliver on-site safety assessments and training.

Greyhound offers a competitive salary range for this leadership role, from $80,000 to $115,000 per year, along with eligibility for an annual 10% bonus. Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in motorcoach or transit intercity bus safety
  • Experience with government mandated safety program reporting
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards, rules, and regulations such as FMCSA/CVSA and OSHA
  • Strong understanding of safety administration principles and practices
  • Proven ability to drive organizational continuous improvement
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows environment and Office software
  • Willingness to work varied schedules
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years in motorcoach or transit intercity bus safety

  • Willingness to work varied schedules
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% as required

Job Duties

  • Conducts and develops safety reviews, audits, inspections, and testing in operational safety and work practices
  • Develops, improves, and implements safety plans, procedures, processes, programs, and policies
  • Advises Operating Leadership teams to meet regulatory safety compliance and develop best practices
  • Initiates safety investigations and root cause analyses and implements corrective action plans
  • Represents the company and collaborates with legal department in depositions and court cases
  • Monitors effectiveness of accident and incident mitigation measures
  • Serves as first contact with safety and compliance governing bodies including DOT, OSHA, and CARB
  • Manages, engages, and develops a team of direct reports
