Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • ability to obtain and maintain required state and local firefighting certifications
  • physical ability to perform firefighting and emergency medical duties
  • availability to work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • compliance with NASA Ames and Fiore Industries policies and procedures
  • ability to work under emergency conditions and stressful situations

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience in firefighting or emergency medical services
  • knowledge of NFPA standards
  • training in hazardous materials response
  • ability to operate fire apparatus and emergency vehicles
  • skilled in search and rescue techniques
  • strong communication and teamwork skills
  • certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • familiarity with incident management systems
  • commitment to ongoing professional development and safety training

Job Duties

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests for service
  • perform required training and maintain required state and local certifications/licenses to meet NFPA, Fiore Industries policies, and customer contractual requirements
  • drive and operate emergency response vehicles during emergency incidents
  • operate fire pumps and associated suppression equipment to control an incident
  • select proper firefighting tools and equipment to control and extinguish fires
  • use ladders to gain access to assist individuals from affected structures
  • perform search and rescue operations
  • utilize appropriate safety equipment, remove hazardous materials from buildings, and assist in determining corrective action
  • provide emergency medical care during emergencies
  • perform extrication operations to free individuals trapped in vehicles, elevators, or structures
  • perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs to emergency response equipment
  • record all pertinent information regarding inspections and maintenance
  • perform required testing and inspecting of fire protection and suppression systems
  • record all pertinent information regarding testing and inspections
  • assume a position in the Incident Management System as required
  • develop and deliver training sessions as assigned by Shift Battalion Chief
  • conduct special projects and complete tasks as assigned
  • follow established NASA/Ames policies, rules, and procedures utilizing personal protective equipment as required
  • attend basic safety training and other related or required courses
  • perform BLS care in accordance with all applicable NASA Ames, local, and State EMS protocols
  • maintain assigned work area and equipment to established standards of housekeeping, preservation, and maintenance
  • ensure time spent at work is properly recorded in the payroll management system
  • perform required vehicle, equipment, and station inspections and maintenance, pre-fire planning, public education, and other assigned projects
  • demonstrate a professional demeanor and appearance with courteous and ethical behavior
  • participate in professional education and fitness training
  • work as an integral team player interacting positively with other employees and contributing to the Department's success
  • perform other related duties as assigned or required
