Job Description
This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The department is committed to providing exceptional services to enhance the quality of life, morale, and welfare of Navy personnel and their families. The Food and Beverage Division specifically focuses on delivering outstanding dining experiences through a variety of venues, ensuring that all guests receive top-notch service in a welcoming and professional environment. As part of a federally funded organization, this role supports the operational success of Navy recreational facilities by maintaining high standards of food safety, customer service, and hospitality.
The role involves working as a server with responsibilities centered on providing quality service in a dining setting. An individual in this role must have the skill set to serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence, understand correct food handling techniques including how to serve and remove dishes from the appropriate side, and possess detailed knowledge of menu items ranging from American classics to foreign cuisines. This knowledge extends to understanding the beverages and wines offered, including which wines complement specific meals and the appropriate serving temperatures for each. Additionally, the role requires skill in proper table setting techniques and the ability to conduct simple math calculations necessary to tabulate customer checks efficiently. An important aspect of this position is the ability to recognize intoxicated patrons to ensure responsible alcohol service.
This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about the hospitality industry, particularly in a structured environment serving military personnel and their families. The position supports not only the operational goals of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department but also contributes to creating a positive community atmosphere through excellent food and beverage service. Although education requirements are not applicable, candidates must bring a strong understanding of beverage service etiquette, food safety practices, and customer interaction skills. The employment type is categorized under 'OTHER,' reflecting the specific nature of service roles within government-funded recreational facilities. This makes it a unique opportunity for those looking to build or advance a career in food service within a respected military community framework.
