Job Description

This position is part of the Food and Beverage Division within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, which operates under the Navy Region Southwest. The MWR Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for military personnel, their families, and civilian employees by providing a wide range of recreational and leisure activities and services. Job Requirements

  • No formal education required
  • Experience in food and beverage service preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must comply with Navy MWR policies and procedures
  • Ability to recognize intoxicated individuals when serving alcohol

Job Qualifications

  • Skill to serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence
  • Knowledge of proper food handling techniques such as the correct side to serve from and the correct side to remove from
  • Knowledge of the composition of all food items on the menu, whether American or foreign
  • Knowledge of the available beverages and wines and which wines complement specific meals and their proper serving temperatures
  • Skill in proper table setting techniques
  • Knowledge of simple math calculations in order to tabulate checks
  • Ability to recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol

Job Duties

  • Serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence
  • Apply proper food handling techniques including correct side to serve and remove items from
  • Understand the composition of all food items on the menu including American and foreign dishes
  • Recommend available beverages and wines and identify which wines complement specific meals along with their proper serving temperatures
  • Perform proper table setting techniques
  • Tabulate checks accurately using simple math calculations
  • Recognize intoxicated patrons and serve alcohol responsibly
