Job Description

This position is located in the Food and Beverage Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The Navy Region Southwest is responsible for providing essential support and recreational services to Navy personnel and their families stationed in the southwestern region of the United States. The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department oversees a variety of programs and services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for service members, retirees, and their families. Job Qualifications

  • Skill to serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence
  • Knowledge of proper food handling techniques such as the correct side to serve from and the correct side to remove from
  • Knowledge of the composition of all food items on the menu, whether American or foreign
  • Knowledge of available beverages and wines and which wines complement specific meals and their proper serving temperatures
  • Skill in proper table setting techniques
  • Knowledge of simple math calculations in order to tabulate checks
  • Ability to recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol

Job Duties

  • Serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence
  • Apply proper food handling techniques such as serving from the correct side and removing from the correct side
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the composition of all food items on the menu, including American and foreign dishes
  • Provide accurate information about available beverages and wines and recommend wines that complement specific meals along with their proper serving temperatures
  • Perform proper table setting techniques
  • Use simple math calculations to tabulate customer checks
  • Recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol
