Job Description

MWR Recreational Lodging at Naval Base Ventura County is a comprehensive hospitality operation dedicated to providing a diverse range of quality accommodations to military personnel, their families, and authorized guests. The lodging services offered include an extensive selection of lodging types such as RV parks, vacation rentals including cottages, cabins, single houses, townhomes, duplexes, mobile homes, hotels, apartments, and yurts, along with campgrounds. This variety ensures that all guests can find suitable lodging that meets their needs and preferences while maintaining comfort and convenience during their stay.

The base's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program strives to enhance the quality of life for military members and their families by offering outstanding recreational and lodging facilities. The Recreational Lodging operation and Maintenance department plays a pivotal role in this mission. This department is responsible for ensuring that all lodging areas are maintained at the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction. The position within this department focuses on delivering efficient and top-quality housekeeping services to all guests and guest areas. It is an essential role that supports the overall guest experience by ensuring that facilities are spotlessly clean, fully equipped, and inviting.

The role is classified as OTHER employment type, reflecting flexibility in the operational workforce. Although there is no formal education requirement for this position, it requires a solid understanding of cleaning procedures, the proper use of cleaning equipment, and safe handling of approved cleaning chemicals. The incumbent should be knowledgeable about the standards set by the Recreational Lodging program and be proficient in operating in-room appliances such as coffee makers, televisions, clock radios, and telephones. Additionally, familiarity with Property Management System (PMS) and Point of Sale (POS) software is necessary to efficiently update room statuses and maintain accurate records.

Housekeeping staff are expected to complete daily room status reports and housekeeping assignment sheets meticulously and to interpret and execute cleaning actions as detailed in the Recreational Lodging Housekeeping Manual and program policy guidance. The ability to prioritize and schedule tasks while respecting guest requests for no service or do-not-disturb notices is critical for balancing guest privacy with maintaining program standards for cleaning and service frequency.

Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, are required to coordinate with management, coworkers, and guests. The use of safe and proper techniques for handling hand and power tools is also part of the job, ensuring maintenance and cleanliness tasks are completed efficiently and with due regard for safety. This position is vital for ensuring that guests receive the best possible experience during their stay, reflecting positively on Naval Base Ventura County's commitment to hospitality excellence and guest satisfaction.
