Job Description

The City of Wasilla, located in Alaska, operates the Wasilla Museum and Visitor Center, a key cultural and historical institution serving both locals and tourists. This museum plays a vital role in preserving and showcasing the rich heritage of the Mat-Su Valley and greater Alaska region. The Visitor Center functions as an educational resource and orientation point for visitors, offering insights into local history, cultural artifacts, and regional highlights. The City's commitment to maintaining and enhancing public engagement with local history is evident through the operation of this museum and visitor center.

The employee will be involved in the preparation, installation, and upkeep of exhibits, as well as managing museum artifacts with appropriate care and historic preservation knowledge. A key aspect of the role includes supporting educational tours, particularly those catering to school and civic groups, thereby contributing to community outreach and education.

Employees are expected to expertly use office equipment such as computers, cash registers, credit card machines, and printers to facilitate daily operations. Additionally, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is necessary for handling communications, data entry, and reporting.

This position requires a valid State of Alaska Driver's License and the ability to operate motor vehicles for tasks such as distributing event flyers. Light custodial duties are part of the job, conducted with awareness of proper artifact handling and preservation techniques. Teamwork plays an integral part, as the employee collaborates closely with museum staff and volunteers to enhance visitor experiences and support museum special events. Strong communication skills, professionalism, and knowledge of Alaska and the local area are essential to effectively serve the museum's diverse audience.
