The role of Beverage Specialist at Boyd Gaming Corporation is designed for individuals with a strong knowledge of mixology and passion for delivering exceptional beverage service. This position requires expertise in preparing a variety of beverages, adhering to precise recipes, measured pouring portions, proper garnishing, accurate pricing, and use of appropriate glassware and wine service techniques. The Beverage Specialist will operate and maintain various bar equipment including frozen beverage machines, dishwashers, ice machines, and pouring guns, ensuring cleanliness and operational efficiency at all times.
This role not only focuses on technical skills but also emphasizes excellent customer interaction, requiring the specialist to understand all food and beverage menu items, including daily specials, and to engage guests by upselling and enhancing their overall dining and drinking experience. The position demands compliance with alcohol awareness laws and diligent enforcement of related protocols. Additionally, the Beverage Specialist is expected to contribute to the upkeep of the bar area, complete assigned side work such as cleaning and stocking, and demonstrate flair in crafting complex cocktails with impressive garnishes. Effective communication skills are essential, as is the ability to memorize and deliver scripted dialogue to maintain consistency in guest service.
Candidates for this role must be at least 21 years old and possess a minimum of six months bartending experience in high-volume settings such as a front bar, service bar, or fine dining environment. Strong knowledge of cocktail recipes, wines, and craft beers is vital, alongside excellent customer service and communication capabilities. Physical demands include standing and walking for the duration of shifts and the ability to lift and carry weights up to 25 pounds. Job Duties
- Complete knowledge of all food and beverage menu items and daily specials
- Understand and meet sequence requirements for the Beverage Specialist position as well as all requirements for the Lounge Serving Team
- Knowledgeable and ability to provide food service at the same high level as the dining room staff
- Comply with and enforce alcohol awareness laws and procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized bar at all times
- Side work, cleaning, and stocking duties must be completed as assigned and also completed in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner
- Ability to build and create craft cocktails to exact specifications and demonstrates showmanship in the creation of these beverages
- Knowledge of garnishes
- Ability to create complex garnishes and properly utilize these in drink presentations
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to memorize and repeat back scripted dialogue
- Ability to describe and upsell food and beverages to enhance the guest drinking and dining experience
- Provide cash settlement of bar checks following all cash handling policies and procedures
- Performs all relative miscellaneous duties as directed by supervisor/manager
