The role is for a Mixing Shop Technician responsible for the proper handling and maintenance of all materials, equipment, and technologies used in the production of polyurethane foam seat components. This position focuses on managing raw materials inventory, mixing materials accurately based on prescribed recipes, and maintaining a clean and safe chemical mix shop environment. The technician will also be responsible for unloading raw materials safely from tanker trucks, monitoring chemical levels on various production lines, and ensuring that all materials needed for production are adequately stocked and available. The role requires a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and environmental guidelines.
Furthermore, the mixing shop technician plays a pivotal role in quality control by performing receiving tests and conducting audits to maintain compliance with safety and manufacturing standards. The technician works closely with other departments such as Maintenance, Process, Quality, and Production, as well as coordinates with supplier truck drivers, ensuring seamless operations across shifts. They are expected to maintain clear communication and transfer knowledge efficiently during shift changes.
The environment demands some physical effort, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. The ability to operate forklifts and other drum handling equipment is essential. This full-time position demands a self-motivated individual with good mechanical aptitude, capable of working with minimal supervision while maintaining high safety and operational standards. The technician must also be comfortable working with hazardous materials and chemical batch mixing. Job Requirements
- high school diploma/ged
- must be able to read and understand material data safety sheets
- prior experience working in a manufacturing mixing shop
- experience working with hazardous materials
- experience with batch mixing of chemicals
- experience unloading liquid tanker trailers
- ability to read analyzes and interpret basic instructions and required documents
- ability to respond and communicate complicated instruction and basic directions
- ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic mathematics
- ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- standing for an extended period of time
- repetitive lifting of more than 20 pounds
- manual handling of full 55 gallon drums in excess of 400 pounds
- work outdoors in summer and winter
- able to operate forklift and required drum handling units
Job Qualifications
- proficient in microsoft office word excel and powerpoint
- must be able to work with minimum supervision
- must have good mechanical aptitude skills
- must be able to accurately operate digital and mechanical scales
- must not be sensitive to odors from chemicals
Job Duties
- maintain and monitor inventory levels of all material daily
- safely unload tanker trucks of raw materials
- mix materials according to a prescribed recipe including required receiving tests
- maintain the raw material stockroom neatly
- maintain the chemical mix shop and fill stations neatly
- clean up all spills immediately in accordance with msds and recommended clean-up methods procedures
- ensure adequate amounts of release agent anti-noise materials and glues are available to meet production requirements
- maintain and monitor chemical levels on sc-a sc-b sc-c and sc-e in addition to any future lines every shift ensuring lines never stop due to low material
- transfer knowledge assignments and special tasks to the incoming and outgoing shift
- maintain requested chemical quantities demands from sister plants nationwide at their request
- conduct audits and assessments to identify potential areas of risk and develop mitigation strategies
- follow all safety protocols and guidelines established by the company
- additional duties as needed and assigned
