The Microbiology Research Assistant position at Argonne National Laboratory is a full-time, 40-hours per week role within the Biosciences Division. This is a one-year project where the successful candidate will support research programs funded by national agencies. The primary responsibility will be to provide technical support to the scientific staff by executing experiments and utilizing molecular biology techniques to examine the microbial composition of environmental samples, including topsoil, subsurface habitats, and mammalian gastrointestinal tracts. The role emphasizes high-throughput PCR-based molecular methodologies, demanding precision, organization, and a strong microbiology background.

The position requires hands-on laboratory work, including DNA and RNA extraction from complex samples, PCR setup, reaction analysis, and troubleshooting. Using general laboratory equipment and applying principles of chemistry, sterilization, and quality control are critical components of the duties.
