Job Description
Nordstrom, Inc. is a leading upscale retail chain renowned for its exceptional customer service and quality products. Founded in 1901, Nordstrom has established itself as a prominent department store brand offering a range of apparel, accessories, beauty products, and home goods. The company is headquartered in Seattle, Washington, and operates numerous locations across the United States and Canada, providing a welcoming shopping experience that blends tradition with innovation. As a company, Nordstrom values its employees and invests in their development, maintaining a supportive work environment that fosters growth and engagement.
Nordstrom is currently seeking a talented and dedicated chef to join its Restaurant team. This role is not just about cooking; it requires a blend of culinary expertise and leadership ability. The chef will be deeply involved in both the creative and operational aspects of the kitchen, ensuring high standards of food quality and customer satisfaction. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $55,500 to $89,000 annually for California locations, reflecting Nordstrom's commitment to rewarding its employees fairly based on experience and skills.
As a chef at Nordstrom, you will embark on a comprehensive Manager in Training program designed to equip you with a thorough understanding of kitchen management. You will have the opportunity to lead a motivated kitchen crew, preparing both classic recipes and innovative weekly specials. Emphasis is placed on scratch cooking, ensuring food prepared is fresh and of the highest standard. You will also be responsible for training, motivating, and developing kitchen staff while aligning their efforts with broader business goals such as process improvements, efficiency, profitability, and compliance with company protocols.
Maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen environment is integral to this role; your attention to detail will ensure the kitchen always meets the 'white glove' cleanliness standard. Exceptional communication skills and a strong foundation in basic accounting are essential to managing operations smoothly and fostering clear, productive interactions among team members. Flexibility in working hours is necessary given the fast-paced nature of the food service industry.
Nordstrom's commitment to its employees is evident in the diverse range of benefits offered, which include medical, vision, dental, life insurance, disability coverage, retirement plans, and paid time away. The company encourages a healthy work-life balance and rewards performance-based contributions with incentives and bonuses. This role is ideal for someone passionate about upscale food service and eager to build a career in kitchen management within a supportive and growth-oriented company environment.
