This job opening is for a Power Generation Maintenance Manager position at the Sommer/Deely Power Station located in San Antonio, TX. This role is critical in ensuring a safe and efficient work environment for employees and maintaining the reliability and availability of the plant's equipment and facilities. The position reports to upper management and involves high-level oversight of maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution. It requires close collaboration with plant engineering and operations staff to implement strategic initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
The Maintenance Manager will lead a large, multi-craft workforce including foremen, supervisors, journeymen, apprentices, and trainees across various trades such as welders, machinists, and technicians. The role demands strong leadership skills to select, coach, and develop employees while fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing budgets, contracts, and maintenance programs like Preventive Maintenance (PM), Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), and predictive maintenance systems to optimize plant performance and reduce downtime.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing the plant's safety program, coordinating with the environmental team to ensure compliance with permits, managing NERC CIP and reliability standards, and serving as a project manager for complex site projects. The role requires flexibility to respond to after-hour emergencies and assume leadership duties in the absence of the Plant Director. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous management experience
- Must have favorable driving record
- Proficient working knowledge of SAP and PASTA systems
- General knowledge of current CPS Energy accounting methods and principles, Capital and O&M
- Ability to work at heights, climb stairs, ladders, enter confined spaces
- Flexibility to respond to after-hours emergencies
- Ability to travel to meetings, training sessions or other business related events
- Physical ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently
- Ability to work in noisy, dusty, wet, or humid environments
- Experience responding 24/7 to situations impacting unit availability
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated track record providing front-line and senior level Maintenance Leadership for a large Coal/Gas power plant
- Familiarity and usage of plant DCS controls and other control systems to diagnose problems and conduct root cause analysis of failures
- Working knowledge of PI software including analytics and trending tools
- Technical knowledge and problem solving skills for maintenance of equipment used in power generation
- Ability to understand and implement preventative maintenance systems, predictive maintenance systems, precision maintenance and practices
- Working knowledge and demonstrated experience successfully leading large, multi-craft staff and contract maintenance teams delivering cost effective plant maintenance utilizing a Condition Based Maintenance Program
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling
- Must have favorable driving record
Job Duties
- Oversees safety program at plant location for staff personnel and contractors
- Active plant safety leader - facilitates daily safety meetings, leads stretching program, and promotes safe work practices
- Works closely with Environmental team to coordinate maintenance activities to protect the environment and maintain permit compliance
- Manages all maintenance activities, including PM compliance program for regulatory and reliability compliance
- Manages the overall Maintenance Planning and Scheduling processes
- Works with the Operations Manager and Engineering Manager to assure plant facilities and equipment are always maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition
- Develops continual open communication between plant foremen/supervisors, Craft Managers and Maintenance Managers to include monthly meetings with each craft
- Addresses issues and makes quality decisions on daily overtime issues, reviews and approves daily time sheets
- Manages NERC CIP and Reliability Standards maintenance obligations and manages NERC certification process for maintenance personnel
- Performs incident command duties to conform with SPCC policies
- Manages maintenance of equipment required for environmental monitoring and compliance
- Demonstrates flexibility and availability in responding to after-hour emergencies
- Develops and manages contracts for various plant support
- Prepares Scope of Work documents necessary to obtain firm pricing for contractor work
- Develops plant budget and assists plant engineers with budget planning
- Utilizes the Maintenance Management System to identify reoccurring plant equipment problems including cost
- Approves purchasing for plant site
- Completes and delivers employee reviews
- Leads maintenance team in developing employee engagement initiatives
- Reviews/Updates PMs with Plant Directors and Foremen to optimize maintenance manhours and PM frequency
- Reviews Plant Performance KPIs and assists with gathering data as needed
- Identifies and implements performance improvement measures as needed
- Reviews equipment availabilities and develops budget items to address deficiencies
- Manages multi-craft workforce to ensure plant reliability
- Serves as a member of the Plant Leadership Team and assumes Plant Director Responsibilities as assigned, during the absence of the Plant Director
- Serves as a project manager for complex projects needed at the site
- Serves as Overhaul/Planned Outage/Forced Outage Manager for the site
- Assists with development of Plant Engineering Group
- Performs other duties as assigned
