The Banquet Server role plays a critical part in ensuring that guests enjoy seamless, attentive service during events hosted by Sodexo at the University of Louisville. This role involves delivering food and beverage services in a range of settings from casual buffet styles to formal plated dinners, and even tray-passed appetizers. Banquet servers support event execution by working under the direction of banquet captains and supervisors, participating actively in the setup, service, and teardown stages of events. Responsibilities include maintaining clean and organized dining areas and service stations, clearing and rearranging tables as needed, and supporting overall presentation standards. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Job Requirements
- Preferred diploma of secondary education (high school)
- Preferred prior experience in banquets, catering, food service or hospitality
- Meet minimum age requirements to serve alcohol according to local and state regulations
- Maintain valid TIPS, TEAM or equivalent certification for alcohol service
- Comply with all state-specific alcohol training requirements
- Food handler certification may be required depending on local or state regulations
Job Qualifications
- Preferred high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) or equivalent experience
- Previous experience in banquets, catering, food service or hospitality preferred
- Must meet minimum age requirements to serve alcohol according to local and state regulations
- Maintain valid TIPS, TEAM or equivalent certification for serving alcoholic beverages
- Compliance with state-specific alcohol training requirements
- Food handler certification may be required depending on local or state regulations
Job Duties
- Provide food and beverage services to guests at banquet events including meetings, receptions, lunches, dinners and special functions
- Support various service styles including casual buffets, formal plated meals and tray-passed appetizers
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tables, service stations and work areas during events
- Clear tables, rearrange cutlery and assist in maintaining presentation standards
- Lift and move items frequently up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Arrive on time and present for scheduled shifts with dependability
- Perform other assigned tasks which may vary depending on the event and client needs
