Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED preferred
  • Prior medical clinic experience preferred
  • Experience using an electronic medical record system preferred
  • Current BLS certification preferred
  • Demonstrates proper appearance and personal conduct appropriate for the role
  • Exhibits effective communication skills with diverse populations
  • Demonstrates good telephone and interpersonal skills
  • Shows good grammar and spelling abilities
  • Possesses excellent customer service skills
  • Shows strong organization and multitasking skills with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates collaborative working relationships with healthcare team members and patients
  • Has working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance authorization
  • Understands insurance coverage including co-payments and referrals
  • Capable of scheduling patients following computerized templates and walk-in protocols
  • Basic computer proficiency including word processing and Windows applications
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

Job Duties

  • Checks in patients including gathering patient information, entering data into computer, collecting co-payments, creating charts, handling insurance information
  • Checks out patients by addressing additional concerns or needs
  • Schedules patients through EMR following provider guidelines
  • Answers and triages telephone calls, transferring or leaving messages for clinical staff, following up on inquiries
  • Documents and routes patient telephone requests such as medication refills, complaints, and urgent health concerns
  • Monitors missed appointments according to protocol
  • Obtains prior medical records and studies when appropriate
  • Routes faxes, prescription refills, test result requests, insurance inquiries appropriately
  • Updates financial records including billing statements, payments, and insurance information
  • Collects, sorts, and distributes mail
  • Maintains organized work area and closes clinic by balancing cash drawer and completing deposits
  • Completes insurance referrals by preparing paperwork, obtaining authorizations, and handling denials
  • Sends chart notes to primary care physicians and patient accounting as needed
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and insurance workshops
  • Communicates supply needs timely
  • Completes mandatory education and licensure requirements
