Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or valid work permit for ages 15-17
- 1-2 years experience preferred in medical or customer service environment
- understanding of insurance verification
- excellent written, verbal and face-to-face communication skills including telephone etiquette
- knowledge of patient care procedures and organizational policies
- service-oriented with responsiveness to customer needs
- proficiency with standard desktop computers and Windows-based software including EMR and Microsoft Office
- ability to compute mathematical calculations
- knowledge of medical terminology
- ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with professional demeanor
- ability to work effectively with diverse populations including staff, patients, family, vendors, outside customers and couriers
- capacity to cross-train in other practice areas

Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or be between the ages of 15-17 with a valid work permit
- 1-2 years of experience in a medical or physician office or customer service environment preferred
- course work in insurance, billing, medical practice education or seminars preferred but not required
- excellent written, verbal and face-to-face communication skills including proper phone etiquette
- proficient with patient care procedures and organizational policies related to position
- proficient in operating Windows-based computer systems including EMR, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, intranet, and computer navigation
- ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
- knowledge of medical terminology
- ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with a professional demeanor
- good organizational and time management skills
- ability to exercise sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- ability to handle patient and organizational information confidentially
- ability to work effectively with diverse populations including staff, patients, family members, vendors, outside customers and couriers
- ability to adapt and cross-train in other areas of practice to maintain smooth operations
Job Duties
- Greet all individuals arriving at the office courteously and ensure that their needs are met
- obtain necessary patient registration information, verify patient insurance eligibility, prepare charts for visits, and notify clinical staff of patient arrivals
- accurately complete patient forms, collect payments, and ensure charges are posted to the billing system
- retrieve and file EMR and paper charts along with miscellaneous reports
- answer telephone following IHA telephone etiquette guidelines and relay messages promptly
- schedule and confirm appointments based on office protocols
- assist with rescheduling clinics and contact patients, communicating with leadership about overbooks
- send out necessary new patient paperwork via MyChart or mail
- manage the daily Work Queue
- oversee daily payment and charge posting balancing as needed
- support overdue report management and patient outreach efforts
- maintain a neat work area and waiting room
- support other offices, attend meetings and training as assigned
- perform other assigned duties
