The role of the Medical Receptionist at Livingston Community Health is integral to maintaining the high standards of patient care and service excellence. The Medical Receptionist acts as the initial point of contact for patients and visitors, setting the tone for their entire healthcare experience. Responsibilities include greeting patients warmly, providing accurate information, managing patient registration processes, verifying insurance eligibility, and assisting patients with enrollment in available programs. The Medical Receptionist plays a vital role in ensuring efficient office operations by managing appointment schedules, handling communications, maintaining patient records in electronic health systems, and supporting financial transactions such as payment processing and daily reconciliation. Furthermore, this position requires strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality standards under HIPAA regulations.

In addition to administrative duties, the Medical Receptionist supports the organizational mission by embodying Livingston Community Health's values in every patient interaction. The role demands excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to provide empathetic customer service in both English and Spanish, with bilingual skills strongly preferred. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Greet all visitors and patients with a warm smile
  • Provide quality customer service care with a positive attitude
  • Register new patients according to established procedures
  • Ensure patient demographics are current and accurate at time of visit including insurance status
  • Verify insurance eligibility or self pay amount at each visit
  • Complete applications and enroll uninsured or underinsured patients to various programs such as Sliding Fee, Every Woman Counts, Family Pact or Gateway
  • Provide Good Faith Estimates to all self-pay patients prior to the visit for services scheduled three days in advance
  • Assist patients with any questions or concerns by directing them to appropriate resources
  • Inform patients of relevant medical office policies and procedures
  • Process patients within a prompt cycle time for an efficient flow
  • Enter all relevant patient information into the Practice Management or Electronic Health Record system
  • Answer all incoming calls in a professional and timely manner
  • Schedule patient appointments and confirm upcoming appointments and recalls while following guidelines and scripts
  • Research and answer any questions or correspondence regarding a patient’s account in a timely manner
  • Pre-flow patients based on clinic protocols
  • Monitor, follow up and document patient no shows within EHR or rescheduled appointment
  • Document all communication with patients via EHR
  • Collect and input patient payments made with cash, credit card, check or money orders into daily money batches in Practice Management Application
  • Balance daily cash and close the payment batches daily
  • Complete money batch reconciliation process daily
  • Provide patients with updated information on programs and services as changes occur
  • Maintain a clean and professional reception area
  • Safeguard privacy and confidentiality of all patient information by following HIPAA guidelines
  • Provide front office support at other LCH Sites as required
  • Other duties as assigned
