Job Description
UCI Health is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine, and stands as the only academic health system based in Orange County. As a distinguished and comprehensive healthcare institution, UCI Health includes its principal component, the UCI Medical Center—a 459-bed, acute care hospital located in Orange, California—along with four affiliated hospitals and physician groups within the UCI Health Community Network spanning Orange and Los Angeles counties. The system also features various ambulatory care centers across the region, serving an extensive and diverse population of nearly 4 million residents in Orange County, western Riverside County, and southeast Los Angeles County.
Renowned for its excellence, UCI Medical Center has been consistently listed among America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 23 consecutive years. The hospital provides advanced tertiary and quaternary care and hosts notable healthcare programs such as Orange County's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, a high-risk perinatal and neonatal program, and both an American College of Surgeons-verified Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center. Additionally, it is home to a gold-level geriatric emergency department and a regional burn center, making it an indispensable healthcare hub in the region.
The Senior Food Service Associate position at UCI Health offers an opportunity to work within a respected and mission-driven organization committed to high-quality patient care and community health service. Reporting to the Food Services Manager, this role is pivotal within the food services team, operating in multiple functional areas including the kitchen, cafeteria, dishroom, and patient services. The Senior Food Service Associate is responsible for performing diverse food service tasks such as meal assembly, food service and delivery, catering support, dishwashing, and maintaining sanitation and safety standards. Additionally, this role plays a key part in assisting with the training and development of new Food Service Workers, fostering a cooperative and efficient work environment.
Candidates for this role are expected to have a strong foundation in food preparation and service, with at least three years of skilled experience. Knowledge of kitchen sanitary controls and safe food handling practices is essential, along with the flexibility to work variable shifts that include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The position requires strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English. The ability to maintain an appropriate work pace and to build and sustain effective relationships across the UCI Health system is critical for success.
UCI Health offers competitive and comprehensive benefits to its employees to ensure a rewarding employment experience, including medical and sick leave, retirement savings plans, vacation time, and access to various discounts and perks. The institution prioritizes a safe and healthy work environment and adheres to rigorous employment conditions including background checks, vaccination policies, and drug-free workplace standards.
Overall, this position is ideal for a dedicated professional seeking to contribute to a top-tier academic medical center known for its commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care. The Senior Food Service Associate role is not only about operational food service tasks but also about fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and quality that directly supports the hospital’s mission and vision.
