Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent
  • Five years of relevant marine experience
  • US citizenship required
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol test and background check
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work with tight specifications
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships and high standards of professionalism
  • Capable of clear and effective communication
  • Experience with vessel design and construction
  • Knowledge of regulatory and class requirements
  • Willingness to participate in site visits and sea trials

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine or mechanical engineering preferred
  • Five years of marine experience required
  • Experience in vessel design and construction preferred
  • Knowledge of CFR, Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts preferred
  • Strong computer skills with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to organize and manage workloads
  • Experience with ERP and PDM concepts preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong documentation skills
  • Ability to work well within a team and mentor others

Job Duties

  • Provide engineering and technical direction on assigned projects
  • Perform or review regulatory and class level calculations and create detailed reports
  • Create or review regulatory and class level drawings
  • Design or review vessel mechanical systems, creating models, drawings, and detailed bills of materials
  • Perform and review 3D modeling creation
  • Create lofted and extruded plate parts for CNC cutting and forming
  • Participate in project engineering and general design reviews
  • Provide liaison between Engineering, Project Management, and production operations
  • Confer with subcontractor design agents and internal engineering staff to resolve design problems
  • Develop and maintain Ship Constructor and SolidWorks models
  • Develop engineering standards and procedure documents
  • Produce and review documentation including RFIs, submittals, engineering change requests, and NCRs
  • Mentor Vigor staff engineers
  • Review department output for adherence to design standards
  • Support project management and production personnel during construction
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs
  • Support estimators during preliminary project stages
  • Participate in sea trials of completed vessels
