The role of the Meat Department Manager at King Soopers is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring an outstanding customer experience by delivering exceptional service and maintaining a clean, safe environment that promotes customer loyalty. The manager oversees all functions and activities related to the Meat department, working to achieve sales and profit goals while upholding strict quality assurance standards. This role requires the ability to manage a team, develop associates, and communicate effectively within the department and with customers. As a Meat Department Manager, you will create a welcoming atmosphere where customers feel valued and informed, while also identifying and acting on opportunities for sales promotions and business growth.

In this role, responsibilities include training and developing associates, managing schedules to optimize staffing levels according to customer volume, conducting product quality inspections, maintaining proper temperature controls, and ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines. The manager will also participate in budget preparation, financial review, and inventory management while fostering a positive workplace culture rooted in trust and respect. Job Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Current food handlers permit once employed
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Knowledge of basic math including counting, addition, and subtraction
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Any meat or retail experience
  • Any management experience
  • Second language speaking, reading, or writing skills

Job Duties

  • Promote trust and respect among associates with a positive attitude
  • Communicate company, department, and job specific information to associates
  • Establish department performance goals and empower associates to meet or exceed targets through teamwork
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume
  • Train and develop associates on their job performance and participate in performance appraisal process
  • Create environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions, responding to inquiries, and making product suggestions
  • Review and inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action
  • Develop and implement department business plan to achieve desired results
  • Create and execute sales promotions with store management
  • Inform and educate department associates about current and upcoming promotions
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for sales and merchandising supervisor
  • Implement period promotional plan for the department
  • Assist management in preparing store and department budget, expense control, and profit and loss reviews
  • Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs
  • Plan and organize inventory process and train associates on inventory stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO)
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers with maintained logs
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures, inspecting equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions
  • Report all safety risks and illegal activity including theft or fraud
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
