Job Description

This role is for a Meat Department Supervisor at Albertsons, a position essential to maintaining the quality, service, and operational efficiency within the meat department. The Meat Department Supervisor champions the company's and division's customer service programs to meet or exceed customer service goals and ensures that the Albertsons philosophy of personalized service is promoted through a positive approach to customer relations. The role involves supervising day-to-day functions of the meat department, including handling customer complaints effectively and maintaining high standards of product quality, safety, sanitation, and merchandising. The supervisor is responsible for motivating, directing, training, and managing personnel, including hiring decisions, scheduling, monitoring performance, and recommending personnel actions.

The position requires conducting daily inspections of all meat sections to ensure compliance with trimming, grinding, rotating, and sanitation procedures and maintaining inventory control through ordering, receiving, and accurate record-keeping. The Meat Department Supervisor also assists with operational activities such as cutting, grinding, wrapping, stocking, cleaning, and customer service tasks. They oversee effective promotional and seasonal displays, control shrink and expenses, and ensure compliance with laws and company policies related to food safety, labeling, and handling. Further responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness and safety of sales floors, equipment, and work areas; resolving customer complaints; responding to incoming calls; maintaining confidentiality; and ensuring all employees are trained to perform their duties properly.

Physical and mental demands of the job include frequent lifting, bending, and operating cutting and packaging equipment, working in varying temperature conditions such as coolers and freezers, and maintaining manual dexterity and alertness to ensure safety and accuracy. This is a safety-sensitive position due to the involvement of potentially hazardous equipment. The company offers competitive wages starting at or above local minimum wage, with potential for quarterly bonuses based on company bonus plans. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in meat department or retail food environment
  • Ability to lift up to 80 pounds frequently
  • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate cutting equipment
  • Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments including coolers and freezers
  • Understanding of safety and sanitation standards
  • Proficiency with computer systems for ordering and inventory management
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures
  • Availability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Champion company and division customer service programs to meet or exceed goals
  • Handle customer relations positively, including complaint resolution
  • Supervise day-to-day functions of the meat department to achieve sales and profit objectives
  • Motivate, direct, train, and participate in hiring meat department personnel
  • Monitor associate performance and recommend personnel actions
  • Schedule personnel to ensure adequate coverage and meet budget objectives
  • Conduct daily inspections of meat sections for compliance with quality, trimming, grinding, rotation, sanitation, safety, and security standards
  • Assist with meat department duties such as receiving, storage, cleaning, cutting, grinding, wrapping, and stocking
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays
  • Control shrink and expenses and maintain accurate paperwork and logs
  • Order, check, receive, and control inventory to ensure product quality and prevent sale of out-of-code products
  • Ensure proper merchandising by following schematics and labeling laws
  • Comply with health, food handling, safety standards, and company policies
  • Monitor competitor prices, product variety, and merchandising procedures
  • Assist customers by filling special orders, making product suggestions, and engaging in suggestive selling
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work areas, and equipment
  • Respond to calls and resolve customer complaints appropriately
  • Attend required training
  • Maintain and clean knives, scales, and other equipment
  • Assist with emergency procedures during equipment or software malfunctions
  • Train associates in proper work performance and monitor their progress
  • Maintain confidentiality of company information
  • Perform job duties safely, accurately, and with integrity
  • Perform other necessary and required duties
