Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • at least one year experience in a medical office strongly preferred
  • effective verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to work as part of a clinical team
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • ability to organize and manage competing priorities
  • ability to problem solve and show good judgment
  • skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone pleasantly
  • ability to speak clearly and concisely
  • ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to sort and file materials correctly
  • ability to key data into medical computer systems accurately
  • ability to balance charges and payments
  • ability to stand, walk, and sit intermittently
  • ability to lift or move items up to 50 lbs
  • corrected hearing and vision to normal range
  • exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue
  • possible exposure to infectious materials and communicable diseases
  • ability to work variable hours including weekends or holidays if required

Job Duties

  • Greet and instruct patients and family members
  • schedule appointments that meet patient needs
  • assist patients in selecting a primary care clinician
  • handle prescription requests and medical chart information
  • schedule referrals with other physician offices and ensure insurance referrals are made if required
  • answer telephone calls and direct them appropriately
  • collect co-payments and deductibles at the time of service
  • accurately post CPT and ICD-9 codes and associated charges and payments
  • balance charges and payments with computer printouts at the end of the day
  • prepare the daily deposit
  • coordinate care with other clinical team members to ensure exceptional patient service
