Job Description
The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Known for its inclusive and nurturing culture, the YMCA serves individuals from all backgrounds, providing a welcoming environment where everyone can belong and become the best version of themselves. The association is committed to putting Christian principles into practice through its various programs, services, and relationships to build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. With a strong mission and core values, the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth fosters a genuine and hopeful atmosphere, encouraging people to realize their full potential and become catalysts for positive change in the community. The organization actively works in areas such as youth development to empower young people, healthy living to improve personal and community wellness, and social responsibility to inspire collective action and support within the community.
The role of Chef at the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth is a pivotal position that supports the mission by leading the Y Achievers Culinary program and managing culinary operations for senior and volunteer events. This is a leadership position within the kitchen, responsible for planning menus, creating new recipes, and ensuring the highest standards of food quality and sanitation are met. The Chef will work closely with the kitchen staff to ensure effective operations, overseeing inventory control, ordering supplies, and delegating tasks efficiently. Beyond day-to-day kitchen management, the Chef must stay knowledgeable about current culinary trends and adapt menus accordingly. This role involves a significant amount of collaboration, leadership, and attention to detail, emphasizing food safety and quality at all times. Compliance with YMCA policies including child abuse prevention, medical, and disciplinary procedures is mandatory, reflecting the organization's commitment to a safe and supportive environment. The position requires a passionate individual with culinary expertise and a commitment to community service, capable of fostering a kitchen culture that aligns with the YMCA's values. This job not only involves culinary duties but also the opportunity to impact community health and youth development directly through the food program. Physical demands include the ability to perform in indoor and outdoor settings and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds, making adaptability an important trait. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership competencies such as communication, inclusion, relationship-building, and project management, ensuring that the culinary program contributes meaningfully to the YMCA's broader goals.
