Job Requirements

Valid driver’s license
California Department of Motor Vehicles driving record printout
California Food Handler Card
First Aid Certificate obtained during probation
Ability to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, taste and smell for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work in wet, humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, at heights, with fumes, toxic chemicals, outdoor weather, extreme cold and heat, and risk of electric shock and radiation
Compliance with safety protocols and reporting injuries promptly
Ability to meet DMV vision requirements

Job Qualifications

Adult Jew fully observant of Jewish law including Sabbath and holidays
Knowledge of Kashrut compliance including vendor compliance, product receiving, storage, handling, processing, and sales
Basic knowledge of nutrition, food preparation, food handling, and sanitation
Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations and equipment care
Experience in large quantity food preparation and service
Yeshiva or Jewish seminary education related to Kashruth, Shabbat, and holidays
High school or vocational school graduate or working toward diploma
Proficient in English and Hebrew
Working knowledge of kosher certifications used by the institution
Six months to one year of commercial kitchen work experience preferred
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions
Good judgment, flexibility, and maturity
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions, decimals
Ability to make change and handle cash

Job Duties

Assist chefs and kitchen staff with various tasks including delivering food and setting up food service tables
Confirm adherence to all Kashrut guidelines and kosher certification requirements
Greet and assist guests, staff, faculty, and students with the highest level of customer service
Serve as catering delivery driver and provide oversight for catering deliveries on and off campus
Turn on all ovens and stoves (pilot lights)
Verify kosher status and certification of all delivered food products
Open and close the kitchen daily and manage extended hours for special events
Manage receiving functions including product inspection, inventory recording, and proper storage
Assist On-campus Rabbi with Jewish life activities and events
Prepare various foods following chefs' instructions, including washing, mixing, assembling, portioning, and packaging
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food prep areas, dining tables, storage, and equipment
Follow all food safety guidelines and maintain HACCP logs
Operate kitchen appliances to prepare foods safely
Monitor equipment functionality and notify chefs of any issues
Manage supply levels and maintain knowledge of kitchen products
Serve meals and beverages, assist with catering duties
Work professionally with student workers and promote a positive campus climate
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure team success
