Job Description

Metro is the public transit provider serving Kalamazoo County. This agency operates a modern, accessible, and community-focused transit system that facilitates over 2 million rides annually. It runs 21 fixed-route bus lines servicing key locations such as Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Bronson Methodist Hospital, Beacon Hospital, and a robust manufacturing sector. In addition to fixed-route services, Metro offers Metro Connect, a federally mandated paratransit service providing curb-to-curb transport for seniors and individuals with disabilities, as well as Metro Link, an innovative microtransit service that provides real-time, on-demand rides. The role of Marketing Manager at Metro involves leading strategic outreach and marketing initiatives designed to enhance public knowledge and ridership. This full-time position encompasses the development and management of marketing plans and partnerships, community engagement, and public communications. The Marketing Manager is tasked with executing annual communication strategies and managing content across various platforms including social media, websites, and print. This role requires creativity and initiative in producing marketing materials such as reports, brochures, route maps, schedules, and promotional campaigns. The Marketing Manager works closely with both internal teams and external contractors to ensure cohesive messaging and effective outreach. Responsibilities also include analyzing data to optimize campaigns, coordinating public feedback, and responding to emergent situations through timely communication. A key focus of the position is fostering strong, productive relationships with community partners, businesses, educational institutions, and transit agencies to build Metro's brand and expand its influence. This role demands strong communication skills, project management capability, and a passion for serving a diverse community. Job Requirements

  • bachelors degree in marketing, communications, business, journalism, public administration, or related field
  • experience with digital marketing, content marketing, market research, and social media
  • proficiency in marketing automation tools such as Hubspot, Marketo, or Salesforce
  • strong project management skills
  • proven ability to produce high-quality, SEO-driven content
  • exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • design experience with Adobe InDesign or Canva
  • knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • familiarity with content management systems and analytics tools is preferred
  • experience working in government, municipal, or public transit environments is advantageous

Job Duties

  • create and implement an annual communications and marketing plan
  • manage the creation of key marketing materials and produce engaging content for website and social media
  • craft and execute a content marketing strategy and calendar to drive brand awareness and engagement
  • plan, prepare, and distribute outreach materials including reports, emails, social media posts, brochures, and mailers
  • manage and coordinate marketing contractor engagements
  • develop and design route maps, timetables, and schedules and manage related printing and inventory
  • implement marketing campaigns and programs including external partners, events, tours, and promotions
  • organize and manage data and analytics, and present findings
  • coordinate public and rider feedback and develop surveys
  • create and print departmental signs and posters for routes and services
  • write and distribute press releases
  • maintain and update the website
  • manage and grow social media accounts
  • assist with staff recruitment by working with human resources
  • handle emergency alert posts on social media and website
  • plan and coordinate attendance at community events
  • maintain educational materials and brochures
  • understand and communicate Metro policies, procedures, safety, and ADA compliance
  • build and maintain relationships with community agencies and partners
  • facilitate communication between departments to ensure clear and timely external communications
  • educate riders on Metro services, safety, accessibility, and ADA compliance
