Job Description
The City of Coronado is a picturesque seaside community recognized for its rich history, natural beauty, and charming ocean village atmosphere. Known as "The Crown City," Coronado boasts a unique blend of scenic coastlines, vibrant cultural offerings, and a welcoming community spirit. The city is characterized by its historical landmarks, including the Coronado Public Library, which was established in 1890. The library is housed in a state-of-the-art facility located on Orange Avenue, incorporating the original 1909 building known as the Spreckels Reading Room. This modern facility serves as a hub for informational, recreational, and cultural activities aimed at promoting lifelong learning and community engagement. Located at the heart of Coronado across from Spreckels Park, the library plays a vital role in the educational and cultural enrichment of the local population.
The City of Coronado is currently seeking a Marketing Assistant to join its Library Services department. This role is ideal for those passionate about community-focused marketing and communications. The Marketing Assistant will support the department's mission by coordinating communication efforts, developing marketing plans, and promoting library programs and events to the diverse community they serve. The position involves a broad range of responsibilities including managing digital content across webpages and social media platforms, preparing promotional materials such as flyers, posters, and event signage, and assisting in the coordination of special events.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute creatively through a variety of marketing and graphic design projects utilizing computer software tools. The Marketing Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining visual media archives and ensuring transparency and responsiveness by monitoring public engagement and addressing inquiries. The role requires collaboration with vendors and city leadership to produce effective marketing campaigns that enhance public awareness and participation in library services.
Applicants with at least two years of experience in marketing and communications, along with relevant training such as an associate degree or certificate in marketing, communication, or graphic design, will find this an excellent fit. The City of Coronado emphasizes a commitment to encouraging diversity and equal access to services in all departmental initiatives. This position is a valuable opportunity to work in a supportive, community-oriented environment with engaged leadership and strong benefits. The work environment is enhanced by Coronado's reputation as a desirable coastal community with numerous amenities including pristine beaches, parks, recreational facilities, and a thriving tourist economy.
Interested candidates should be prepared for a selection process including an application review, oral panel interview, and a final department interview. The City of Coronado offers an attractive compensation package that includes a generous monthly cafeteria allotment, retirement benefits through CalPERS, life and disability insurance coverage, tuition reimbursement, and the opportunity for professional growth. Employees also benefit from paid leave accruals to support work-life balance, access to community facilities, and longevity pay incentives.
In summary, the Marketing Assistant role at the Coronado Public Library represents an important position within a culturally rich and historically significant community. The successful candidate will play an essential part in enhancing the visibility and effectiveness of the library’s programs while fostering strong community connections and promoting equitable access to information and resources.
