The Career Services Department at Furman University, housing the Malone Center for Career Engagement, plays a critical role in supporting students in career preparation, professional development, and networking opportunities. The department is dedicated to providing students with personalized guidance and access to employer contacts, internships, and career exploration resources that build bridges between academic disciplines and future professional goals.

The Marketing and Events Coordinator position within the Malone Center for Career Engagement is a full-time role and an essential component of Furman's commitment to student and alumni engagement. Reporting within the Career Services Department, the coordinator is responsible for crafting and executing a comprehensive communication strategy aimed at increasing student interaction with the Malone Center throughout their four-year academic journey at Furman University. This multifaceted role oversees managing the department’s brand in alignment with strict University branding guidelines and ensures the clarity and consistency of the Malone Center's voice across various platforms, including the website, social media, email campaigns, newsletters, publications, and annual reporting.

The position demands a combination of creative marketing expertise, strategic event planning, and team leadership. The coordinator acts as the project manager for all major Malone Center events such as career fairs, industry networking programs, career treks, and signature alumni events, ensuring each is meticulously planned and executed to foster meaningful connections between students, alumni, and potential employers. Additionally, the role supervises a team of student workers who play an instrumental part in social media management and delivering outstanding front-line customer service to Malone Center constituents.

Furthermore, the Marketing and Events Coordinator collaborates closely with internal University departments, such as University Marketing & Communications and the Office of Admissions, to synergize efforts on marketing campaigns and prospective student engagement. The position requires active oversight of continual data evaluation and outreach effectiveness to optimize communication strategies and student engagement outcomes each semester. This position is compensated on a salary basis within the grade 6S pay category, reflecting the skill set and responsibilities required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, business, higher education, or a related field
  • One to three years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, event planning, student affairs, or related setting
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and details simultaneously
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences
  • Experience with social media platforms, direct email and text-based marketing tools, and website content management systems (WordPress)
  • Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, faculty, employers, and other stakeholders
  • Must be a team player

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement a communication plan that increases awareness and engagement with the Centers’ programs and resources among students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and employers
  • Design and create content for email campaigns, newsletters, digital signage, presentations, annual reports, and print materials in accordance with Furman University branding guidelines
  • Manage Malone Center department website and social media channels
  • Create a marketing strategy to increase student and alumni engagement with Furman’s new alumni engagement platform, The Furman Network (powered by PeopleGrove)
  • Manage email, text, and app-based communication strategy, push notifications, and text/SMS channels
  • Support photography, storytelling, and data collection that highlight student and alumni success and the value of a Furman education
  • Serve as the Malone Center’s liaison to University Marketing & Communications, partnering on stories and content that drive current student engagement and prospective student enrollment
  • Partner with the Office of Admissions on continual refresh of current data and materials for prospective students and parents
  • Assess marketing reach and distribution each semester, demonstrating connectivity to target audiences across the four-year pathway, and developing strategies for new channels
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of all Malone Center events including career fairs, career treks, networking receptions, alumni panels, and other signature events
  • Manage all event logistics including room reservations, catering, hotel accommodations, vendor coordination, transportation, technology, parking, signage, setup, and day-of support
  • Maintain the Center’s event calendar and design a printed student calendar of events each semester
  • Input all center’s events into Handshake
  • Provide occasional evening or weekend support for signature events and campus programs as needed
  • Hire, train, and supervise a team of student workers/interns that will serve as the first point of contact and provide exceptional customer service to students, employers, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and other constituents that visit the Malone Center for Career Engagement
  • Employ a student development focused lens to student work, ensuring that the career ambassadors program is a high impact experience for student workers
  • Serve as the primary purchasing card holder for the Malone Center
