The role of Market Grille Department Manager at Hy-Vee is pivotal in ensuring the smooth and profitable operation of the Market Grille section within the store. This position is non-exempt and involves managing a team responsible for preparing and serving food and beverages efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and customer service. The Market Grille Department Manager plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates employees and resources to provide excellent dining experiences for Hy-Vee guests.
The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering a positive and welcoming atmosphere that promotes teamwork and guest satisfaction. Key duties include managing customer interactions, working closely with chefs for supply management, controlling food and beverage costs, supervising food preparation to minimize waste, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Market Grille Department Manager also takes part in marketing and promotional activities, inventory control, pricing strategies, and budgeting.
Leadership and communication skills are critical to this role, as the manager oversees hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management of department personnel. Job Requirements
- Must be 18 or older
- two to four years of related work experience
- ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally

- supervises portion control and quantities of preparation to minimize waste
- performs frequent checks to ensure consistent high quality of preparation and service
- analyzes weekly and monthly sales and trends and compares to actuals
- works with other management personnel to plan and executes marketing, advertising, and any special restaurant functions
- monitors actions of staff and guests to ensure that health and safety standards and liquor regulations are obeyed
- maintains budget and employee records and monitors bookkeeping records
- investigates and resolves complaints concerning food quality and service
- arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment and other services
- figures retail merchandise pricing and ensures correct pricing
- directs hiring, training, and scheduling of food service personnel
- enforces sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas
- complies with all health and safety regulations
- conducts inventory of the department
- plans displays, promotions, and determines pre-orders
- monitors food preparation and methods
- understands and troubleshoots equipment and ensures maintenance is performed
- maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
