The ideal candidate for this role will have previous experience working in a refined volume restaurant as a host or greeter and must be adept at using reservation management software to swiftly and accurately navigate bookings. This position demands an individual who can multitask efficiently, remain composed under pressure, and consistently provide a friendly and welcoming demeanor. The restaurant host will be the first point of contact for guests, tasked with greeting arrivals, offering seating choices, escorting guests to their tables, and presenting menus in a courteous manner.
Additionally, the host will maintain communication across shifts and with management by managing the daily logbook and coordinating with service personnel to enforce grooming and uniform standards. Conducting daily meetings to update staff on specials, promotions, and guest feedback is also a key function. The role includes receiving and facilitating reservations for special events and performing opening and closing duties, as well as helping with side work such as cleaning and stocking supplies. The restaurant host will carry out various other duties, including assisting guests throughout the dining experience and ensuring open communication between guests, management, and staff.
This position reports directly to restaurant management and works closely with servers, culinary teams, and valet staff. Job Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Restaurant greeter experience preferred
- Must obtain any government required licenses or certificates including Washington Health Card Permit, Oregon Liquor Service Permit, Alcohol Service Permit
- CPR certification and/or 1st Aid Training preferred
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs, frequently lifting and carrying objects up to 25 lbs
- Ability to walk or stand for significant periods
- Ability to reach, handle, feel, talk, hear and see
- Must be able to maintain composure and friendly demeanor under pressure
Job Qualifications
- Knowledge of restaurant operations, to include appropriate staffing levels, service equipment and guest relations
- Ability to read the English language to fully comprehend guest requests, memos, reservations, promotional materials, event orders and similar written materials
- Ability to speak the English language sufficient to conduct small employee meetings to impart new information
- Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items
- Ability to move throughout a crowded room to seat guests
- Ability to effectively deal with customer complaints and concerns in a friendly and positive manner
Job Duties
- Meet and greet guests as they arrive, offer choice of seating, escort them to their table and present menu
- Read, maintain and make daily entries in the logbook to coordinate communication between shifts and management
- Maintain proper set-up of dining room and enforce uniform and grooming standards of all service personnel daily
- Assign stations to service staff
- Conduct daily roll call meetings to keep staff informed of current promotions, daily specials, guest comments, daily events and pertinent memos
- Receive, record and make any necessary arrangements for reservations and special functions in the restaurant
- Perform opening and closing duties
- Assist others with side work to include cleaning, stocking and folding napkins
- Perform other duties as requested, such as carrying coffee and/or tea pots throughout the outlet, refilling guests’ cups as requested, handling special guest requests, and ensuring guest satisfaction
- Maintain an open line of communication between guests, management, and service staff
- Attend required meetings
