Job Description

The City of Shoreview, located in Minnesota, is a vibrant community known for its commitment to providing excellent public services and recreational opportunities for its residents. Among its many amenities, the Shoreview Community Center stands out as a bustling hub of activity, attracting over 500,000 visitors annually. This center is well-equipped with a variety of facilities including two banquet rooms, meeting rooms, a fireside lounge reception area, a gymnasium, fitness studios, a running and walking track, a fitness center, an indoor water park, a child care center, locker rooms, and more. These features make the Community Center a favored destination for residents seeking fitness, leisure, childcare, and event hosting options.

The Parks and Recreation Department of Shoreview further enriches the community by offering a wide range of classes and programs throughout the facility. This dynamic environment requires a dedicated and capable team to ensure smooth operations during busy hours and special events.

The role of Manager on Duty (MOD) at the Shoreview Community Center is a part-time position designed to oversee activities during some Friday and Saturday evening shifts. The hours typically span from approximately 7:30 pm to 2:00 am, or until event set-up for the following day is complete. These hours are subject to facility rental schedules and therefore are limited and variable. The MOD position plays a crucial role in maintaining order, safety, and customer satisfaction within the center during these peak times.

As a Manager on Duty, the individual is responsible for supervising the community center's evening operations, providing assistance and information to both guests and staff, and addressing any customer concerns and complaints in a professional manner. This role demands a proactive approach to enforcing the community center's rules and regulations, ensuring that all patrons have a positive and safe experience. Additionally, the MOD manages the logistical aspects of events, including room setup with tables, chairs, and appropriate technology, as well as documenting event details through daily reports and check-out forms.

The work environment is characterized by its pace and customer-focused nature. The role requires prolonged standing and walking throughout the event, overseeing multiple areas, liaising with staff, vendors, and guests, and promptly responding to any operational requirements or emergencies. The position may occasionally require handling outdoor responsibilities and working in environments with crowds, loud music, and high activity levels.

Furthermore, this position necessitates physical capabilities such as lifting or moving event materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees must be available to work evening and weekend shifts, reflecting the Community Center's commitment to serving residents 364 days a year, with limited holiday hours. Notably, Shoreview is closed on Christmas Day.

In recognition of their contributions, employees in this role receive several benefits, including a free membership to the Community Center, free parking, uniforms when applicable, and direct deposit for payroll. The City of Shoreview is an Equal Opportunity Employer, dedicated to fostering a culturally diverse workforce and offering reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This inclusive approach ensures that all qualified candidates have the opportunity to thrive in this role.
