Job Description

The City of Shoreview, located in Minnesota, is a vibrant community known for its dedication to providing exceptional recreational opportunities and facilities to its residents and visitors. One of the city's crown jewels is the Shoreview Community Center, a bustling hub that attracts over 500,000 visitors each year. This multi-purpose facility includes two banquet rooms, meeting rooms, a fireside lounge reception area, gymnasium, fitness studios, running and walking tracks, a fitness center, an indoor water park, a child care center, locker rooms, and more. The Parks & Recreation Department actively hosts a wide range of classes and programs throughout the year, serving as a central point for community engagement and wellness.

The City of Shoreview is currently seeking a reliable and customer-focused Manager on Duty (MOD) to support the operations during some Friday and Saturday evening shifts. This part-time position is essential for maintaining the smooth and efficient running of the Community Center during busy events and rentals, typically during the hours of 7:30 pm to 2:00 am or until necessary set-up for the following day is complete. This role is ideally suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working with the public in a fast-paced, high-energy setting.

As Manager on Duty, you will be responsible for overseeing event set-ups, enforcing community center rules, and ensuring guest satisfaction through excellent customer service. This role requires multitasking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond promptly to operational challenges. You will collaborate with other staff members and vendors, provide critical support during events, and ensure the safety and security of patrons throughout your shift.

Compensation for this role ranges between $19.25 and $25.00 hourly, reflecting the significance of the responsibilities and the need for dedicated availability during evening hours. This position comes with notable benefits, including a free membership to the Community Center, free parking, direct deposit for salary payments, and access to uniforms where applicable. Employees will also experience the rewarding environment of contributing to community wellness and engagement within a government agency committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This position requires physical activity including prolonged standing, walking, and lifting items up to 50 pounds. MOD personnel must be prepared to work in environments that may include loud music, large crowds, and fast-moving situations, with a focus on maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere. Although the hours are limited and based on event rental schedules, commitment to Friday and Saturday night availability is essential. The City operates 364 days a year, with limited holiday hours on most holidays except for closure on Christmas Day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with some customer service background looking to gain managerial experience in a community-focused environment. Preferred qualifications include supervisory experience, management history, CPR and First Aid certifications, and a valid driver’s license. The City of Shoreview is an Equal Opportunity Employer, encouraging candidates from all backgrounds to apply, and offers reasonable accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

If you are a motivated individual who enjoys working evenings, engaging with the public, and facilitating memorable community events, this Manager on Duty position at the Shoreview Community Center is an excellent fit. Join a team committed to service excellence, safety, and community enrichment in this flexible part-time role.
