Job Description
The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI), established in 1953, is a distinguished intertribal organization representing nearly 60 Tribal governments across the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. As a member-led organization, ATNI is deeply committed to advancing Tribal sovereignty and self-determination. The organization provides a critical forum that enables collaboration, advocacy, education, and technical assistance among Tribal governments. ATNI plays a pivotal role in strengthening the leadership, capacity, and voice of its member Tribes, engaging in policy work and various initiatives that support Indigenous rights and community development.
ATNI seeks a dedicated and experienced Manager of Events and Engagement to join their team in Portland, Oregon. This is a full-time, exempt, and permanent position offering a competitive salary ranging from $95,000 to $115,000 per year. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Manager of Events and Engagement will be responsible for leading the planning and execution of key organizational convenings including three annual conventions, sector-specific summits, virtual meetings, and special events primarily within the Pacific Northwest, with occasional national gatherings.
The Manager of Events and Engagement will collaborate extensively with ATNI members, partners, and internal teams to develop, coordinate, and implement engagement strategies that elevate member participation and strengthen sponsorship opportunities. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong project management capabilities, and the ability to manage complex event logistics including venues, vendors, travel arrangements, registration processes, and on-site staffing. Maintaining seamless event execution within allocated budgets and timelines is a critical function of this position.
In addition to logistics, the Manager will spearhead communications efforts related to events and sponsorships by crafting values-aligned messaging, managing partnerships, and handling transparent sponsorship solicitation. They will also oversee the evaluation and reporting processes for engagements to enhance future event quality and organizational impact. This role demands proactive relationship-building skills to establish and nurture trusts with Tribal leaders, corporate sponsors, and community stakeholders.
A key component of the position includes cross-functional collaboration across ATNI's programmatic, finance, communications, and leadership teams to ensure alignment and efficiency in operations. The Manager will contribute to internal meetings and strategic retreats, as well as support grant application content that highlights the role of events in advancing ATNI’s mission. Furthermore, adaptability and attention to detail are essential attributes to manage multiple priorities and respond to evolving organizational and event-related needs.
This position requires regional travel throughout ATNI’s expansive territory, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Western Montana, Northern California, Nevada, and Southeastern Alaska, estimated at 15-20% of the time, with occasional national travel. The organization offers comprehensive benefits including 100% employer-paid medical insurance for employees, paid holidays, vacation time, and a 401(k) retirement plan option.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in event management platforms, comfortable working within Tribal and Indigenous contexts, and experienced in sponsorship development and fundraising. This is a unique opportunity to join a respected Indigenous-led organization where your work will contribute directly to strengthening Tribal sovereignty, cultural respect, and community development across the Northwest and beyond.
