Job Description

American Airlines is the largest airline in the world, renowned for its extensive global network covering 365 destinations with over 6,800 daily flights. As a prominent leader in the aviation industry, American Airlines is committed to providing exceptional service, innovation, and a diverse and inclusive workplace for its employees. With a rich history and a progressive approach to both customer experience and employee development, American Airlines continually fosters a culture that emphasizes career growth, teamwork, and operational excellence. The company invests in its workforce by providing robust health benefits, travel perks, and wellness programs to support both personal and professional growth.

The position available is a key leadership role within the Inflight Base Operations team, falling under the larger scope of the Inflight group. This role involves directing and managing the performance of Crew Managers, Operational Coordinators, Administrative Support Staff, and Flight Attendants to ensure operational efficiency and superior service standards. The successful candidate will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with various departments such as Customer Service, Ramp Service, Flight, and Food & Beverage to address and resolve flight attendant concerns effectively.

This role requires strategic thinking to minimize delays, guarantee on-time departures, and continually improve both the flight attendant and customer experience. Responsibilities include interpreting and applying corporate policies and the APFA collective bargaining agreement while working closely with local APFA representatives to make interest-based decisions that benefit both the company and employees. The role also involves data aggregation and analysis to support Inflight goals in engagement, performance, and attendance metrics.

In addition to managing day-to-day base activities, the position is responsible for staffing functions including hiring, promotions, discharges, and transfers. The ideal candidate will be adept at providing clear work direction, resolving problems promptly, setting deadlines, and coordinating activities for maximum efficiency and economy. Leadership is fundamental in this role, with a focus on fostering development within the team, particularly among Crew Managers and Senior Crew Managers.

With a minimum requirement of a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent experience and at least five years of relevant training, the incumbent must be capable of working rotating shifts, including nights and weekends. Airport security compliance such as FAA criminal background checks and obtaining necessary security badges are mandatory for this position. Preferred qualifications include prior managerial experience and previous experience as a Flight Attendant, supported by proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and problem-solving skills.

American Airlines offers extensive benefits designed to enhance both the work and personal lives of team members. From day one, employees have access to comprehensive health coverage including dental and vision, as well as wellness initiatives aimed at fostering overall well-being. Travel perks allow employees and their families to explore the world through extensive flight networks. Financial wellness is supported through a 401(k) program with employer contributions after one year, while additional benefits include an Employee Assistance Program, pet insurance, and exclusive discounts on hotels, cars, and cruises.

American Airlines prioritizes an inclusive workforce that mirrors the diversity of the communities it serves. The airline’s more than 20 Employee Business Resource Groups facilitate connection, personal growth, and a supportive environment designed to help team members thrive. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be integral to the operations of a global airline while advancing your career in a vibrant and inclusive work environment.
