Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, journalism, public relations, recreation, or related field
  • five years of experience in event planning and management preferably in a municipal or government setting
  • eight years of related experience to meet educational minimum
  • strong leadership and management skills
  • knowledge of event planning, public art management, and community engagement
  • ability to develop and manage budgets
  • excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • proficiency in organizing and facilitating complex event logistics

Job Duties

  • Manages, monitors, and oversees event planning, art commissioning, and other citywide services
  • manages planning and coordination for events, festivals, sports seasons, parades, art displays, and conferences
  • provides guidance and direction for events, productions, educational conferences, training meetings, airport operations, parks usage, and sports tournaments
  • directs, manages, and oversees work and planning through managers, coordinators, and specialized staff
  • provides coaching and assistance with challenging situations
  • implements plans, schedules, and determines objectives needing emphasis
  • recommends or adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources, and work plans
  • coordinates, manages, and supervises public art selection process, commissioning, contracting, fabrication, and installation
  • oversees public art coordinators and ensures process compliance
  • manages planning, organizing, and implementing festivals and special events
  • provides policy clarity and guidance on special events and public art displays
  • prioritizes funding and implementation strategies
  • creates and manages budgets
  • communicates with staff and clients about event details
  • monitors computer databases and reporting systems for logistical services
  • interviews potential staff and manages hiring and termination
  • provides technical guidance and manages departmental workflow
  • executes social media strategies
  • performs other duties as assigned
