Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, journalism, public relations, recreation, or related field
- five years of experience in event planning and management preferably in a municipal or government setting
- eight years of related experience to meet educational minimum
- strong leadership and management skills
- knowledge of event planning, public art management, and community engagement
- ability to develop and manage budgets
- excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- proficiency in organizing and facilitating complex event logistics

Job Duties
- Manages, monitors, and oversees event planning, art commissioning, and other citywide services
- manages planning and coordination for events, festivals, sports seasons, parades, art displays, and conferences
- provides guidance and direction for events, productions, educational conferences, training meetings, airport operations, parks usage, and sports tournaments
- directs, manages, and oversees work and planning through managers, coordinators, and specialized staff
- provides coaching and assistance with challenging situations
- implements plans, schedules, and determines objectives needing emphasis
- recommends or adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources, and work plans
- coordinates, manages, and supervises public art selection process, commissioning, contracting, fabrication, and installation
- oversees public art coordinators and ensures process compliance
- manages planning, organizing, and implementing festivals and special events
- provides policy clarity and guidance on special events and public art displays
- prioritizes funding and implementation strategies
- creates and manages budgets
- communicates with staff and clients about event details
- monitors computer databases and reporting systems for logistical services
- interviews potential staff and manages hiring and termination
- provides technical guidance and manages departmental workflow
- executes social media strategies
- performs other duties as assigned
