Job Description
The University of Miami is a distinguished research institution and academic health system, recognized as one of the premier centers of higher education and medical science in the United States. Located in South Florida, it stands as one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce comprising over 20,000 faculty and staff members. The University is dedicated to excellence in education, research, and healthcare, driven by a mission to positively impact the lives of students, patients, and communities both locally and globally. It fosters a culture of inclusivity, empowerment, and collaboration where every individual is valued and encouraged to contribute meaningfully to the institution's collective goals. United by shared values of purpose, integrity, and service, the University community continually strives to create an environment that supports academic and professional growth.
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Miami plays a critical role in supporting the institution’s mission through fundraising and engagement activities. This division focuses on cultivating strategic philanthropic relationships to enhance the University's ability to transform lives and communities. Grounded in core values such as Service, Gratitude, Trust, and Partnership, the Division guides its strategic planning and daily operations with these principles in mind. Within this dynamic and mission-driven environment, the role of the Events Manager is essential.
The Events Manager works closely under the guidance of the Executive Director of Events, taking a mid-level management position responsible for planning and executing a broad spectrum of events that support the University’s development and alumni relations goals. These events include groundbreakings, dedications, forums, lectures, memorials, scholarship lunches, and various others that may be assigned by multiple University departments, including the schools, colleges, units, the president’s office, and student affairs. This position requires highly organized and proactive individuals who can manage complex event logistics and maintain effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
Key responsibilities of the Events Manager involve creating and managing all aspects of event timelines, budgets, staffing, and logistics to ensure seamless execution from inception to completion. The role demands strategic development of event plans with clearly defined goals and budgets and includes maintaining and enhancing invitation databases, reports, and printed materials that are crucial to the events’ success. The Events Manager also engages in vendor negotiations and manages relationships with external service providers to secure the best value and quality for goods and services required for special events. Additionally, this position oversees committees formed to support events, facilitating meetings and guiding these teams toward achieving established objectives.
The manager is accountable for supervising event staff, ensuring they are well-prepared and trained for their roles. Program design and development for each event are also part of the job description, along with financial oversight to ensure expenditures are within budget limits. This full-time staff position offers a competitive salary range of $60,000 to $65,000, dependent on experience and qualifications. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and bring at least five years of pertinent experience managing events or related functions. To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, proficiency in business and management principles, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. The University of Miami is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring a supportive and equitable workplace for all employees.
