The role of Manager, Engagement Experience, within the Public Affairs & Engagement Team at Good Reason Houston is a pivotal position designed to bring the mission to life through strategic engagement and event management. This role is entrusted with managing the full lifecycle of the organization's events and convenings, ranging from the flagship annual fundraising event, ConnectEd, which draws around 1,000 attendees, to a diverse calendar of regular community and engagement events. These events are essential platforms for building trust, deepening relationships, and galvanizing action among families, educators, civic leaders, funders, and partners across the Houston region.
The Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end operational execution of ConnectEd, including venue selection, vendor coordination, budget management, and program design, ensuring that the event successfully advances Good Reason Houston's fundraising and community engagement objectives. Additionally, the Manager will plan and execute a variety of other convenings—ranging from intimate listening sessions to mid-sized forums and community celebrations—helping to foster collective ownership and elevate the organization's regional presence.
This position requires meticulous project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively in a fast-paced environment. The role demands collaboration with cross-functional teams, including event owners, advancement teams, and various divisions within the organization, to ensure alignment with strategic goals and maximize engagement impact. The Manager is also charged with sustaining high standards of event quality and brand consistency, developing best practices and success criteria for organizational events, and leveraging technology platforms for event registration and data capture.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in event or project management roles
- Proven ability to manage events with 500+ attendees
- Experience managing event budgets exceeding $100,000
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Job Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience ideally in event management project management and coordination
- Proven experience managing large-scale events of 500+ attendees and multi-stakeholder convenings
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets of $100K+
- Experience working across multiple departments and managing diverse stakeholder expectations
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities
- Extremely strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong relationship management skills

Job Duties
- Lead full lifecycle operational management of flagship annual fundraising event ConnectEd including venue selection vendor management and budget oversight
- Plan and execute approximately 10 convenings and events annually including listening sessions community dialogues teacher celebrations and larger community celebrations
- Develop detailed project plans run-of-show documents and contingency plans for all events to ensure seamless execution
- Manage event budgets track expenses negotiate vendor contracts and ensure cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality standards
- Coordinate operations of registration systems attendee communications and post-event follow-up to ensure strong participant experience
- Source and manage relationships with external vendors including venues caterers AV providers photographers and other event partners
- Coordinate logistics for speaking engagements panels and presentations including speaker preparation AV needs and materials
- Partner closely with event owners to co-design event vision audience strategy and engagement goals
- Collaborate with Advancement team on fundraising event strategy donor engagement and sponsorship fulfillment
- Coordinate across divisions to ensure appropriate participation and engagement at events
- Maintain organization-wide events calendar and build event planning templates checklists and standard operating procedures
- Establish and maintain success criteria for events monitor performance and lead after-action reviews for continuous improvement
- Manage event-related technology platforms including registration surveying and project management tools
- Support operations team with vendor contracting compliance and payment processes
- Assist Public Affairs and Engagement team with operational needs as assigned
