Job Description

The City of Round Rock, located in Texas, is renowned for its dynamic community and commitment to fostering economic growth and enhancing quality of life through strategic initiatives. The city operates a Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), which plays a pivotal role in promoting tourism as well as sports and entertainment events that drive local economic development. As a governmental entity, the City of Round Rock emphasizes public service, community engagement, and sustainable development. It seeks dedicated professionals who can contribute to the city’s vision of becoming a premier destination for world-class events and community enrichment. The Department of Sports Management and Tourism within the Convention and Visitors Bureau manages a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including attracting major sporting and cultural events and facilitating visitor experiences that showcase the best of the region.

The full-time position of Manager for the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) offers an annual salary range of $81,120 to $102,440, commensurate with experience. This leadership role is central to advancing Round Rock’s status as the sports capital of Texas, charged with the responsibility of bringing local, regional, national, and international sporting events to the city. The Manager will oversee all operations of the CVB and Visitors Center, ensuring premium service quality, operational efficiency, and sound fiscal management. Comprehensive management duties include developing and securing event bids, negotiating contracts, and coordinating closely with event owners, sports governing bodies, and third-party organizers to maximize hotel room bookings and economic impact.

The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of the sports event market and demonstrate skills in sales, development, and public engagement. They will lead a team by hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff performance to meet city objectives and measurable goals. Essential to this role is the ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships, coordinate site tours for potential clients, maintain detailed client records within Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, and track performance metrics such as leads, event proposals, confirmed bookings, room nights, and economic contributions. Oversight responsibilities extend to event service coordination among organizers, facility and hotel staff, and local partners. Additionally, the Manager will handle local and regional business relations to maximize advertising and sponsorship opportunities at key city sports venues including the Round Rock Sports Center and Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

This role demands a strategic thinker and effective communicator capable of balancing community interests, city goals, and commercial considerations. The City of Round Rock offers a competitive benefits package designed to support employees' health, financial security, and professional growth. Benefits include robust health and dental coverage, paid parental leave, vacation and personal leave, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement plans with city match, tuition assistance, and a variety of wellness programs. The CVB Manager thus works in a supportive environment that fosters career development and work-life balance while contributing to one of Texas’s most vibrant communities and sports markets.
