The Boston Center for Youth & Families (BCYF) is a respected public organization dedicated to fostering community development and well-being through various recreational, educational, and social programs. This opportunity is for a Regular Full-Time Maintenance Worker/Custodian position falls under the Boston Center for Youth & Families department at the Curley Community Center located in Boston. This role is unionized under SU5 with a salary scale ranging from $46,215.54 to $58,294.22 annually and adheres to a 35-hour workweek. The position reports directly to the Site Administrator and is integral to the daily operations and upkeep of the community facility. The maintenance worker/custodian will have the primary responsibility of cleaning, securing, and conducting preventive maintenance to ensure the community center remains a safe, clean, and operational facility at all times.

The Maintenance Worker/Custodian plays a critical role in making easy to moderately difficult repairs to building infrastructure and equipment to ensure the center is always in excellent condition. This includes opening and closing the facility and maintaining a hygienic environment both inside and outside. The role demands vigilance in securing the building to ensure safety for both the public using the site and the staff working within. Seasonal duties such as snow and ice removal are essential to maintain accessibility during winter months. Additionally, the maintenance worker/custodian oversees the regulation of essential utility services including electricity, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems to guarantee a comfortable environment. Monitoring and reporting on operational and maintenance needs is also vital to meet service standards. The position entails ordering necessary supplies and equipment and maintaining accurate daily work checklists and logs to track tasks and maintenance activities. This stewardship ensures not only comfort and safety but also longevity of the facility’s assets.

The position requires candidates to be residents of Boston and able to work weekends to meet community center operating demands. Holding a current Massachusetts driver's license is mandatory, along with a minimum operating knowledge of heating systems, electrical equipment, elevators, air conditioning, emergency lighting, power tools, and snow blowers. Preferred skills include knowledge of cleaning techniques and products, as well as the physical capacity to lift heavy weights, shovel snow, and climb ladders. This role demands reliability and a commitment to maintaining the high standards set by the BCYF for its places of service. The maintenance worker/custodian will contribute directly to the positive community experience by supporting a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment that residents can rely on throughout the year.
