Job Description
Samaritas is a reputable Michigan-based human service organization committed to connecting people with families and communities, empowering them to live their fullest life possible, and creating transformative ripple effects in the lives they serve. Rooted deeply in the inspiration drawn from the Good Samaritan story, Samaritas embodies a faith-based mission and values that focus on compassion, service, and community enhancement. The organization operates a variety of services, including housing initiatives that provide support and comfort to diverse individuals and families in need. One such initiative is their Affordable Living Community, which comprises 53 residential units designed to foster safe and comfortable living environments for its residents. This community is a testament to Samaritas's dedication to affordable and supportive housing, blending quality care with practical living solutions for its residents. This role of Maintenance Worker is pivotal to ensuring the ongoing wellbeing and functionality of this community. It is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a competitive hourly wage of $20. The role also offers a comprehensive benefits package, contributing to overall job satisfaction and security. The position involves a wide array of duties that encompass the routine upkeep and emergency maintenance of the affordable housing complex. Key responsibilities include light plumbing, electrical work, drywall repairs, and groundskeeping duties such as lawn care and snow removal. Additionally, the role involves light housekeeping tasks, particularly focused on preparing vacant apartments for new residents, ensuring that the living spaces are clean, safe, and welcoming. Maintenance workers will also respond promptly to work order requests, prioritizing tasks and addressing urgent repairs effectively to maintain a comfortable environment for staff, residents, and visitors alike. On-call responsibilities during weekends and holidays add an essential layer of availability for emergency situations, underscoring the role's importance in maintaining uninterrupted residential support. This position demands a candidate who is not only technically skilled but also compassionate and sensitive to the needs of the persons served. Effective communication with residents, community members, vendors, and contractors is vital, as is the ability to work collaboratively across diverse cultural backgrounds. Critical to success in this role are strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances, especially during emergency repairs and maintenance tasks. The candidate will also be responsible for inventory management, coordinating supply orders as needed, and providing recommendations to enhance the quality of services provided within the housing community. This Maintenance Worker role represents an excellent opportunity for individuals with a general maintenance background seeking a meaningful, stable, and engaging career in a service-driven environment that values community impact and supportive housing.
