The Maintenance Technician role at Smithfield Foods is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of the plant. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 1+ years of related experience and/or training in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment or 4 years’ direct experience in industrial mechanical or food manufacturing maintenance environment
  • Vocational diploma, technical diploma or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school (preferred)
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissor lift or other powered industrial trucks (PIT)
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read and execute work order, write daily reports, and translate equipment manuals

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of related experience and/or training in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing
  • Vocational diploma, technical diploma, or associate degree from technical or vocational school (preferred)
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to interact productively with all levels of personnel and contractors
  • Ability to operate powered industrial trucks such as forklifts, genie lifts, or scissor lifts
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to read and execute work orders, write daily reports, and interpret equipment manuals

Job Duties

  • Review work orders to assess tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies needed
  • Use SAP to create work orders
  • Respond quickly to emergency calls with the right tools and equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals
  • Monitor machinery during operation to spot malfunctions
  • Disassemble, troubleshoot, replace faulty parts, and test mechanical equipment
  • Fabricate replacement parts using welding, cutting, and sheet metal work
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on mechanical systems
  • Install and maintain mechanical equipment, piping, and electrical controls
  • Install new equipment and utilities including electrical, water, gas, and drain lines
  • Use small hand tools and devices for general mechanical maintenance
  • Adhere to preventive and predictive maintenance schedules
  • Follow all safety protocols including lockout/tagout and GMPs
  • Maintain a safe and compliant working environment
