The role of Overnight Engineer at JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes is an essential position within the Engineering & Facilities department, focused on ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the hotel’s physical infrastructure. This full-time, non-management role offers employees the opportunity to work overnight shifts, positioning them to promptly respond to guest repair requests and maintain the high standards of the JW Marriott brand.

As an Overnight Engineer, the successful candidate will independently address guest maintenance issues, performing preventive maintenance on tools, equipment, and hotel systems. Responsibilities include the visual inspection of tools and equipment, equipment handling, and proficient use of hand and power tools. The role demands a strong working knowledge of multiple technical disciplines such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical systems, mechanical and plumbing repairs, pneumatic/electronic controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment maintenance, and general building management.

Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing various hotel mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems is essential, along with the ability to work with Lockout/Tagout safety protocols to ensure secure and safe maintenance procedures. The Overnight Engineer will also play a key role in maintaining maintenance inventories and requisitioning parts as needed to ensure operational continuity.

In addition to technical expertise, this role involves maintaining clear communication across shifts and providing leadership by mentoring junior engineers. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Vocational or technical background
  • At least 2 years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience
  • Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must meet applicable state and federal certification and licensing requirements
  • Ability to work overnight shifts
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and coworkers
  • Adherence to company safety and security policies

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Respond to guest repair requests
  • Communicate with guests and customers to resolve maintenance issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines
  • Carry equipment such as tools and radios
  • Identify, locate, and operate shut-off valves for equipment and buildings
  • Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies
  • Communicate daily activities and problems to other shifts
  • Display proficiency in multiple maintenance categories including air conditioning, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building management
  • Use hand and power tools safely
  • Repair or replace PVC and copper pipes including soldering
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on various hotel equipment
  • Program TVs
  • Perform general housekeeping and engineering-related duties
  • Assist with surface preparation and painting
  • Use Lockout/Tagout system before maintenance work
  • Display knowledge of engineering computer programs related to maintenance and energy management
  • Perform mid-level troubleshooting of hotel MEP systems
  • Train and mentor other engineers
  • Perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities including readings and rounds
  • Follow company safety and security policies
  • Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries
  • Complete safety training and certifications
  • Properly store flammable materials
  • Maintain clean and professional appearance
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
  • Protect company assets
  • Welcome and acknowledge guests
  • Anticipate and address guests’ service needs
  • Assist individuals with disabilities
  • Adhere to quality expectations and standards
