Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) is a distinguished nonprofit organization that has been serving the Delmarva Peninsula since 1954. With over 70 years of dedicated service, BBD has become an essential lifeline for the region’s healthcare providers. The organization delivers nearly 90,000 lifesaving blood products annually to more than 40 hospitals, EMS, and healthcare partners across Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. As a proud member of New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe), which spans over 17 states and provides one million blood products annually to more than 400 U.S. hospitals, BBD plays a crucial role in the broader network of blood donation and distribution. NYBCe is also involved in advanced medical services including cellular therapies, specialty pharmacy, and offers crucial support to over 200 research, academic, and biopharmaceutical organizations. Its Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute leads groundbreaking research in hematology and transfusion medicine, committed to the study, prevention, treatment, and cure of bloodborne and blood-related diseases.
At Blood Bank of Delmarva, the Hospital Services Coordinator/Logistics Driver role is integral to the organization’s mission to save lives. This vital position is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and timely packing, handling, transportation, delivery, and return of blood products and patient samples between BBD and its hospital customers. The role also involves managing the transport and delivery of supplies and blood products between various BBD locations, including mobile sites. Operating in a critical capacity, the Hospital Services Coordinator/Logistics Driver is considered an essential employee during severe weather and emergency operations, maintaining BBD’s continuous support to hospitals and healthcare providers.
This position works second shift, from Monday to Thursday, 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, and Friday from 5:00 pm to 1:00 am. The candidate coordinates with hospital personnel and internal Hospital Services staff, using web-based inventory ordering software and digital logistics tools such as OnFleet for assignment of deliveries and driver scheduling. The Coordinator also manages Central Receiving responsibilities at the Christiana headquarters, overseeing incoming unprocessed blood, blood products, and supplies.
Safety and vehicle maintenance are key components of the role, requiring completion of vehicle safety checklists and upkeep of delivery vehicles.
