Job Description

Sofar, founded in London in 2009, started as a unique initiative aimed at rejuvenating the live music scene, which had lost much of its enchantment. Over the years, it has evolved into a global movement that transcends music alone, incorporating comedy, dance, and singles, all while maintaining a core focus on discovering and promoting emerging talent. This forward-thinking company has established itself as a creative force in the live entertainment industry, presenting experiences in unconventional and beautiful spaces such as boat decks, hidden museum rooms, private living rooms, gardens, rooftops, and even more extraordinary venues like caves and ski jumps. These venues serve as unforgettable backdrops that elevate the intimate experience of live performance.

What makes Sofar stand out is its commitment to fostering a deeply immersive connection between artists and audiences. Its shows encourage attendees to be fully engaged with the performance, using their devices not as sources of distraction but as tools to support the artist and participate actively in the community. The company’s impressive roster of artists includes household names like Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and Hozier, many of whom have played early gigs through the Sofar platform.

Employees at Sofar are passionate about the arts and deeply embedded in the live entertainment culture. Whether attending performances or sharing new music discoveries, the team shares a common goal of enriching the live experience and supporting artists' growth globally. This culture of passion and community is what drives their work every day.

The role available is a Freelance Local Producer position, designed for individuals who are entrepreneurial, proactive, and self-starting. This hybrid role requires candidates to be based in the designated city where they will lead the development and execution of Sofar's presence locally. It involves comprehensive responsibilities ranging from event planning and curation, marketing and promotions, to the on-the-ground execution of live events. As a Local Producer, you will leverage your business acumen, cultural knowledge, and local connections to create memorable, high-quality pop-up experiences that engage and grow local communities.

You will be at the center of a vibrant cultural network, activating artists, venues, brands, and community partnerships while managing event financials and operational logistics. The role demands flexibility, as much of the activity occurs during evenings and weekends, coinciding with live event schedules. Compensation is commission-based, ranging approximately from $100 to $500 or more per event, depending on ticket prices, volume, and performance.

Working as part of a global team, you will have access to resources, training, and peer collaboration, fostering your growth as an influential tastemaker and community builder. The role also requires working closely with business partnerships and community teams to ensure a high standard of event curation, promoting the Sofar brand and expanding its reach. This is not a traditional employment role but a partnership opportunity to take full ownership of how Sofar is represented and experienced in your city. The company prioritizes inclusivity and diversity, encouraging candidates from various backgrounds and experiences to apply. Additionally, Sofar integrates AI tools in its hiring process to streamline recruitment but maintains human involvement in final decisions.
