The role of Local Delivery Driver (Class A CDL) in Wayne, MI, is a vital position within Airgas, focusing on the safe, timely delivery and pickup of compressed and liquid gas cylinders and hardgoods. This position operates on a first-shift schedule from Monday through Friday. Successful candidates will drive well-maintained, newer equipment and handle delivery routes that involve significant interaction with customers to ensure their satisfaction and address any concerns they may have. Responsibilities include conducting thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to meet all safety and compliance standards, maintaining accurate vehicle manifests and shipping documentation, managing the proper loading and secure transport of hazardous materials, and adhering strictly to Airgas's SAFECOR safety guidelines and all federal regulations. This role is not only about transportation but also requires supporting warehouse or dock operations as needed, thereby contributing to efficient logistics and customer service.

Candidates will need a valid Class A Driver's License, a current Medical Examiner's Card, and either hold or be able to obtain Hazmat and Airbrake Certifications. Prior professional driving experience with a Class A license is essential, ideally at least one year within the past five years. Airgas also considers candidates with a diploma from an accredited driving school or a combination of driving experience and specific Airgas experience. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years or older
  • Must have valid Class A Driver's License
  • Must possess valid Medical Examiner's Card
  • Must have Hazmat and Airbrake certifications or obtain as condition of employment
  • Must have one year of professional Class A driving experience within last five years with clean driving record
  • May qualify with accredited driving school diploma or combination of relevant experience
  • Must comply with all safety and government regulations

Job Duties

  • Operate a Class A Hazmat vehicle delivering compressed and liquid gas cylinders and hard goods along designated routes
  • Collect empty cylinders from customers and return them to plant or branch for refilling
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections ensuring safety compliance
  • Maintain accurate load manifests and vehicle documents ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Establish and maintain good customer relations providing timely communication of delivery issues
  • Work in warehouse or on dock as needed to support operations
