The role of Local CDL Garbage Truck Driver at Hardin Sanitation is vital to maintaining the cleanliness and environmental health of the communities served. This full-time position, based in Meridian, ID, offers a Monday through Friday schedule starting at 6:00 am, with work hours typically ranging from 8 to 11 hours depending on route completion. Occasionally, work may be required on Saturdays. Drivers can expect to be home every night, offering a good work-life balance that is important for family and personal commitments. Physical endurance is required to handle the loading, unloading, and moving of waste bins, as well as cleaning up accidental waste spills whenever necessary.

Job Duties

  • Safely operate an automated garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste
  • read route sheets and service each customer identified or assigned by the dispatcher
  • perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles including checking fluids and safety equipment
  • perform physically demanding tasks including loading, unloading and moving waste bins
  • operate hydraulic hand controls to lift, load refuse, operate compactor, and dispose of collected material
  • clean up accidental waste spills
  • complete daily reports on pre and post trip inspections of equipment
  • fuel and maintain the physical appearance of the vehicle
  • monitor and assess service requirements for carts and containers
  • follow all safety policies and procedures
  • courteous interaction with customers and perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
