The role in question is a Warehouse Associate position focused on night shift work, aimed at individuals who thrive in dynamic warehouse settings. The position involves vital warehouse duties including loading and unloading of goods, manual depalletizing, receiving items, put-away and replenishment of stock, as well as product selection under certain conditions. Adherence to Preferred Work Methods (PWMs) is essential for all functions to promote safety, accuracy, and productivity.

Working in this role means operating within different warehouse environments such as freezer, cooler, and dry storage areas, managing the challenges of extreme temperature conditions such as intense cold or heat. The Warehouse Associate is responsible for verifying product integrity, accurately recording inventory data using Radio Frequency (RF) equipment into the warehouse management system, and maintaining a safe and orderly work environment. Responsible operation and routine inspection of material handling equipment (MHE) like forklifts and pallet jacks are required, alongside compliance with all company policies and industry regulations such as OSHA and HACCP standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience with warehouse tools, including specific reach trucks, and must be certified, or willing to become certified, on material handling equipment. Effective communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively in a team, and a strong understanding of safety procedures are critical. The physical demands of this job require frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds, along with the ability to stand, walk, and maneuver within a busy warehouse setting.

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities but plays an essential role in minimizing losses through diligent receiving processes, careful product inspection, and maintaining compliance with safety and operational protocols. The candidate will work closely with supervisors to maintain equipment and warehouse standards and address any operational or safety concerns immediately. This is a critical warehousing role vital to Sysco's ability to provide timely and safe dietary solutions to their extensive customer base.

Job Requirements

  • Reach truck experience preferred
  • Certification on material handling equipment is required or the ability to become certified

Job Duties

  • Ensure pallets received meet defined requirements
  • Enter/scan accurately item details into warehouse management system using RF equipment
  • Verify and enter piece count and weights accurately against records
  • Inspect products for shortages, damage, or deterioration and report
  • Record all discrepancies such as overages, shortages, and damages
  • Verify cooler and freezer product temperatures and follow protocols for temperature abuses
  • Complete vendor compliance forms during receipt
  • Apply blind LPNs if manufacturer has not provided license plates
  • Ensure proper operation of dock doors, plates, lights, and locks and report issues
  • Complete receiving certification process
  • Minimize warehouse shrink/damage in collaboration with supervisor
  • Maintain neatness and cleanliness of work areas and travel aisles
  • Report unsafe or unfixable conditions immediately
  • Enforce all safety rules to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks safely
  • Follow proper lifting techniques and physical work practices
  • Perform daily inspection and maintenance of material handling equipment
  • Use warehouse computers and RF equipment properly to avoid damage
  • Adhere to company policies and applicable state and federal laws
  • Support food safety policies and programs
  • Perform other assigned warehouse duties
