As a line/prep cook at the Jalapeno Tree, you play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and consistency that our guests expect. This position involves preparing and cooking menu items according to our detailed recipes and strict standards for quality and presentation. You will be responsible for a variety of kitchen tasks including chopping vegetables, portioning proteins, preparing sauces and dressings, and managing your workstation to ensure it is clean, organized, and fully stocked. Operating within a fast-paced kitchen environment, you will utilize diverse cooking techniques such as grilling, sautéing, frying, and baking to prepare dishes efficiently and to the highest standards.

In this role, attention to detail is paramount. You must monitor food quality and presentation continuously, correcting any issues immediately to maintain consistency across all orders. Proper handling and storage of ingredients are essential to minimizing waste and ensuring freshness. Collaboration with your fellow kitchen staff is vital to managing orders effectively and delivering timely meals to guests. Additionally, complying with all health and safety regulations, including proper sanitation and hygiene practices, is a critical aspect of your daily duties.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Proficient in English or Spanish
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Texas Food Handlers Certification
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, move at a rapid pace, bend, twist, and lift products weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity for use of cutting tools and kitchen utensils for chopping, slicing, dicing, and other tasks
  • Frequent exposure to varying temperatures (cooler/freezer and kitchen area)

Job Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Texas Food Handlers Certification
  • Previous experience as a line/prep cook or in a similar kitchen role is preferred
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare and assemble ingredients according to recipes and specifications
  • Prepare and cook dishes according to the restaurant's recipes and standards
  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies and ingredients
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization at the assigned station
  • Utilize a variety of cooking techniques, including grilling, sautéing, frying, and baking, to prepare dishes efficiently
  • Manage ingredients, including proper storage and handling, to maintain freshness and minimize waste
  • Monitor food quality and presentation to ensure consistency and adherence to recipes
  • Address and correct any issues promptly
  • Assist with ordering and receiving supplies as needed
  • Report any shortages or equipment issues to the kitchen manager
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and efficient food preparation
  • Communicate effectively with the team to manage orders and address any concerns
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper sanitation practices and hygiene standards
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
